2008 prius brake pedal become hard to press on bash ABS light is on with handbrake light both with yellow and red one. Can I know what will the problem and how to fix it Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
OP is in Fiji. His Prius is likely a JDM import. If so no extended warranty assistance. Did you recently perform any brake repair or service?
Get the codes read with a code reader that can read all Prius codes. Ideally a reader that is using Techstream software. It may very well be the brake actuator. If so, you can replace this with a new or used part. DO NOT DRIVE the car in its current condition. It is not safe.
You can't assume this. Different jurisdictions handle parallel imports variously. For example here, for safety issues, the manufacturer is obliged to handle the parallel imports the same as their own imports. The only problem for the manufacturer is getting in contact with the owner on a parallel imports as they don't have the records, so in some cases it is up to the owner to present their car to the dealership for evaluation and make an appointment to have the remedial work done, if it qualifies. Factory warranty work is a different matter. The OP should take their car to a Toyota Service Centre to be assessed for the factory recall. They can only say no, so no harm in trying.
Correct, the OP is free to go to their local Toyota dealer and inquire. Worse they can say is NO, hopefully w/o having to pay a diagnostic fee. Unfortunately, I am correct. OP has an JDM import (most likely) and will NOT have any warranty coverage. 1) Notice the lack of Prius for sale by Asco Motors, The Official Toyota Distributor for Fiji. Passenger - Asco Motors Clearly, his/her Prius is NOT an unauthorized import by Toyota. 2) I am not aware of any product manufacture (electronics, appliances, vehicles, etc) that honors "grey market" products for warranty. OPs vehicle is a grey market product, and will have NO warranty. In your case, Prius are imported and sold through official Toyota channels, so parallel warranty would apply for JDM Prius brought into New Zealand. 3) The OP most likely has a JDM import. As you know living in New Zealand, there are a lot of JDM imports there, just as in Fiji. 4) The Japanese do NOT hang onto cars that long, b/c of the bi-annual vehicle inspection (shaken). Therefore, the extended warranty for the brake actuator will most likely NOT exist for JDM Prius. 5) The extended warranty on the brake actuator, will probably be unique to North America models. Why? 2010-2014 was a dark period for Toyota USA, due to the unintended sudden acceleration accidents, investigations, settlements, and being found of wrong doing in court. Toyota wants to stay out of negative publicity and avoid any investigation by NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Consumer complaints were likely filed to NHTSA and to Toyota via dealerships or Toyota Customer Care. Toyota USA saw there was small trend, but fears another NHTSA investigation and the publicity this would bring. Easier and cheaper to get ahead of that by offering an extended warranty. 6) You have not stated that New Zealand has the same North American extended warranty for the brake actuator. This reinforces my belief that only North American model Prius have this warranty.
