I see that Prius Chat Shop shows a remote start for $499 for the Gen 4. It does not include any details regarding how it functions or system installation. Anyone know where additional information can be found? Thanks
You got to be kidding. Remote start and grass blowers should be outlawed. Both are environmentally unfriendly, just like drive-in coffee shops. Most of us bought a Prius because it uses little gas it is a's green as possible for an ICE to provide comfortable mid size commute.
Sorry I'm coming from a Fusion Energi, I would always cool the car down while it was plugged in or out in the sun using the battery via a phone app? I thought I could do the same just using the battery with the Prius and the electric A/C compressor, is that not the case? That's why I am asking for info. I have no interest in using the heater I live in NC the land of no snow.
Seriously, please note I am the last guy to try to offend. As for cooling the car, I roll all windows down for a few seconds, or minutes as needed, while the AC is on to cool the car down. My wife, lady lead foot, can't stand the heat. Even she can put up with this. Maybe she just loves me too much? As for is your suggested method being doable, I suppose so. Mind you the Prius software has certain behaviours which tend to make the ICE come on "when it wants to". Like the software will not allow you go to EV mode under number of cicumstances which puzzle me. So I guess the ICE might just come on while the car is started via a remote.
Yeah, but the snow lasted a day and melted that afternoon (Lexington/Winston-Salem, NC here). I wouldn't consider that a snowed in.
Yes that may well be so, but he's in his 80s now and I just ring him every week. So I can accept your word..
I don't know why people are assuming it snows where you live. They don't even know where you live! I used remote start for A/C in a rental car (Chevy Traverse) and I loved it. I think it's more for heating the car though than A/C. I wouldn't care if it used a couple drops of gas.
I use my factory installed remote start when the temps hit down in the 30s to get it warmed up for about 5 minutes or when the temps are 80+ to cool it off. In the cold it will start the ICE every time but in the heat it will use the Battery for cooling unless you leave it remote started for 15+ minutes, then sometimes the ICE comes on. I purchased the vehicle because of the amount of tech in it for the price, the widespread fanbase, the reliability, and the fuel economy on my 100+ mile round trip every weekday. The "Green" portion of it is just icing on the cake. Even with remote starting i'm willing to be its more "Green" for the environment than most vehicles that dont remote start and just drive. At home all of my appliances are Energy Star, every light bulb is LED and all faucets, showerheads and toilets WaterSense certified. So if i want to remote start my black interior in the summer so my 2 year old doesn't scream bloody murder i will have 0 regrets about doing so.
What?? Glad you're not becoming world dictator anytime soon. If a person wants a remote start, they want a remote start. Do you really think a Prius idling for 15 minutes is going to wreak havoc on the environment? Most of did buy a Prius because it uses little gas, but that doesn't mean we're environmental fascists like you who want to ban something just because you don't agree with it.
i have a remote start/alarm in my 13 ct200 and i love it. i can have it warmed up or cooled down when i want and still get 40+ mpg i can supply you with a remote start unit that will start it with 3 lock pulses for less than half that price. in box me
Oh come on. When you live in the midwest and have to dig out your car you'll say something different. In the winter my windshield is literally iced over so I have to turn the car on for about 10 minutes before I can see out the windshield. Not to mention driving a frozen engine is not at all good for the car. Auto start is a massive help for a problem that can't be avoided in cold climates.
