The Auto Express review in the UK says " On the motorway, for instance, overtaking acceleration from 50 to 75mph takes a slow 8.3 seconds". Do folk agree with that? Does this mean that 0 to 50 can be done in 10.2 minus 8.3 equals 1.9 seconds? I doubt it! Has anyone got verified data on acceleration times such as 0 to 30, 30 to 50, 50 to 75 etc? The 2016 is on paper no quicker than previous generations but some reviewers and owners seem to be saying it feels really quick and a lot quicker that previous Gen cars especially around town. Can anyone explain this apparent contradiction? Does it mean that acceleration at higher speeds is actually a lot slower than previous models to offset this? What is people's experience of this? It depends on whether the battery was full or not and if they floored it. And if they tested with a full and an empty battery. But of course, most reviewers of cars are still living in the world of dinosaurs and don't have a clue of how an hybrid system works. And honestly what interests they have to review a car, any car, better or worse than any other. In the end the judge is the customer. So test drive it yourself and be the judge for your needs and how it feels for you. I think gen4 feels nimbler and definitely lighter than gen3 and fulfills all my needs. I just got back from home with 2.8L/100km fuel consumption so I don't really care what it does on paper from speed x to speed y. And it drives pretty well on German autobahns too
Statistics on 50-70mph for the Gen 4 in the UK seems to vary. This test claims 6.3 secs Toyota Prius vs VW Golf GTE vs Ford Mondeo Hybrid | Auto Express And then this test claims 5.9 secs Kia Niro vs Toyota Prius | Auto Express I don't really pay much attention to statistics in brochures & magazine reviews, I'm more interested in the real world performance on the roads I typically drive on. Yes, on paper it's much slower 50-70mph than my previous car, so I thought it would be pretty sluggish at higher speeds, and I was surprised that it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I wouldn't call it rapid, but it's competent at motorway speeds.
Sadly, I'll never know. Our dinosaur speed limits have a maximum of 68MPH in the entire country, despite the long boring straights in country areas. It's fast off the mark if you need it to be.
50-70mph is a very common "real world" metric used to determine passing ability. I doubt that it's really 8.something seconds, but if it is, then that's pretty slow. I drive a G3 and it seems to be adequate for interstate duty. In fact....back before they installed GPS loggers in all of our fleet vehicles a certain employee won some coin and some street cred from some of the truck drivers with a G3 Prius. This is because most trucks are speed limited to less than 100-mph, and trucks take a while to work their way up to speed as well. Just be careful putting your money on the table though, because the first thing most gearheads do with their new vehicles is to remove the speed limiter....
FWIW...75 MPH in Oklahoma is only on the few turnpikes we have. Normal maximum interstate speed limit is 70 MPH...
Strange that KIA Niro wins in the acceleration category while KIA themselves say that it takes 11,5 seconds from 0-100 km/h or 0-62 mph... At least on paper and I believe so in reality, the 2016 Prius has slightly better acceleration than KIA Niro !
I think Prius acceleration is just fine. Amazing for a car that holds 5 and gets 60 MPG. I don't know, is there anything else out there that does what the Prius does?
The max limit in most of my commute is 50 and often drops to 45-40 so I wouldn't know how the car does at 70. But so far I've had no problems passing and no one has tailed me unless it was because of the traffic in front of me. Next time I drive out to the west side of the island where the limit jumps to 60, I'll test out the 50-70. Do any of the screens have a timer?
The speed limit on out local freeways is 65 mph. So of course, that means everybody is doing 85! It fries my nerves to be on the freeways around here! (Maybe I'm getting old.... ) I'm always driving in the PWR mode. I wonder if that will make any difference in the passing time/speed?
I haven't tried PWR mode yet since I wanted to see what mpg I'd get on Tank #2 while just driving normally without any tricks. The one downside to hardly needing to fill up is it will be a couple more weeks before I fill up again.

I would be curious to know what the time would be from the moment you can hear the ICE revving up to accelerate. What I've learned to do is anticipate strong accelerations (for changing into a much faster lane for instance) and mash the pedal about 3 seconds before I need the acceleration. Does anyone else do this?
