Parking LED Light issue.

Those are not user replaceable. Take it to the dealer for replacement under warranty.

Yes, LED lights are supposed to outlast the car.

 

Incandescent bulbs are expected to fail regularly, therefore they are designed to be user-replaceable. LED lights are not expected to fail within the life of the car.

 

Aftermarket LED lights fail far before their stated life though.

That depends on whether they are over-driven at higher voltages or not. If everything else in a Toyota is engineered for long life, why should the LED lighting be any different?

 

I am referring to cheap, aftermarket leds, not the oem ones. We are in agreement that the oem leds should last the life of the vehicle.

They will replace the entire lamp housing and swap the headlamp bulbs (and any other removable bulbs) to the new housing. Except for the LED headlamp equipped cars, that means any other LEDs are integral to the housing, and the housing must be replaced if they burn out.

It is possible to take the housing apart by melting the thermo glue that holds it together, then replace the LEDs, and then reassemble it. That takes some skill, a good oven, and about 50 cents per LED. The housing is typically in the $100 and up range. Probably closer to $300. Someone can look it up, but there are several different designs for different countries, and even different designs in each country. You could just order the housing from Japan but you will need a detailed description as there are several different types. Exact date of manufacture of the car, which side, and type of headlamp are a good starting point.

 

If you have no warranty on it I would just leave it be. It's going to be very expensive to fix just for that one bad LED.

I didn't even realize there's a different type of LED headlight housing comparing against what I have. In my lamp there's a normal T10 led bulb that can be replaced easily. (Sorry, doesn't help your question. Just thinking.)

 

Ugh, just noticed that half my cluster isn't working... You never know when you aren't on the outside of your car all the time at night.. but i was showing someone the turn signals in the mirrors and noticed a dark spot, then upon closer inspection found that half the led cluster is out..

 

I’m experiencing the same issue with my 2012 PiP Advanced and it’s SO annoying.

But as another user mentioned, it’s insanely expensive to replace the LED headlamp unit. Out of warranty Toyota dealer quoted $750 for a new housing unit and $250 install *cry.

I've seen plenty of other brand vehicle stock LED drls and other types of LEDs dead driving all around town. It's amazing how this new fad of DRL has taken off with a lot LED failures.

 

I hear the error is generally with the resistors and not the LED, can anyone confirm this?

Solved the unsightly problem by buying a.pair of 'eyelids' for about $50 (real carbon fiber)
