I had Uhaul install a trailer hitch for me this week - my main goal was to haul bikes. A Class 1 hitch order + install was only $190 (I didn't get it wired). Here are some pics!
That's a good deal! I just got a quote for $366 from my UHaul dealer to install the hitch and wiring module, plus a ball carrier, ball, and tax. After looking at the install directions, I think I'm willing to pay UHaul to go to the trouble of pulling and cutting all those rear trim panels.
I would certainly take that. The guy walked out and said, "This car is a bitch" during the install. I guess it was all straightforward but there was a ridiculous number of small parts. Only took him about 75 minutes though (without wiring).
It took my installer 3 hours for the hitch and electrical hookup. He too had unkind things to say about my car. Out of curiosity since you got the wiring what are you planning to tow? Also I LOVE that blue color - it was my second option.
Just pulled the trigger on a purchase of a 2014 Quicksilver 6.0 tent trailer to tow behind our Prius Two. The whole thing only weighs 650 lbs. and we can barely even feel it behind the car. We drove from Bend, OR to Snohomish, WA, a distance of over 300 miles, climbing over a couple of 4,000' passes, as well as cruising down the interstate at over 60mph. We averaged almost 41mpg, which is not so impressive for a '16 Prius, but I'd like to see any other RV setup come close to that. Lightweight trailer / Gen 4 hitch / ideas......nice photo's and great ideas to keep us on what other possibilities are on the horizon for Pri owners. I hope some others share venders of lightweight trailers out there to look at. PS ...re. Pri 4 rear plastic shrouding / I hope there is a template for the min. cutting of hole(s) to make install clean, professional & easier. And why is it that people doing a job for the 1st time complain about how difficult it is to do? Did these same complainers they ever reduce the pricing on how easy a Gen 3 hitch install is? Gen 3 Pri v rear shocks: Be careful on excessive labor misquotes. I had 2 local reputable shops not look up labor times - 1)Toyota dealer serv. adv. & 2) a repair shop both quote me 3 hours of labor time I did it in 30- 60 min., 3-5 tools required.:sm flat blade screwdriver to pop access panels, 17mm box wrench & socket & 1/4" & 1/2" ratchet
