I absolutely love my Prius - i'm doing more than my estimated mileage by about 20% as i take it out just for the pleasure of driving it.
Treated her to the vanity plate PR16USS (shes 16 reg, couldnt find the 11 plate for her sadly...).
My first hybrid after a liftetime of diesels - better economy than a diesel supermini, and WAY better economy than a similar sized diesel.
One teeny fault in 10,000 miles was a sonar sensor covered with muck knocking out the parking sonar for a moment till rinsed off. Otherwise perfect (except for the excessive beeping on reverse!).
Fantastic car, easily the best i've ever owned and i hope to still be driving in 15 years.

I'm interested to see how close the mph matches real speed. In my 2010, my spedometer and odemeter read too high by about 3% which means my mpg is also too high by 3-4%. I've checked my speed with both a gps phone app and a Garmin handheld gps. Those devices agree with each other which are both ~3% higher than the Prius numbers. Also confirmed by counting the time needed to pass 10 mile markers on relatively straight highway sections. If the dash says 80 mph, the gps units read 77.

That's brilliant, especially coming from the UK. Here, we watch Fifth Gear and Top Gear and it seems only diesels can do astounding highway mpg (but those are extreme tests. There's a 2004 Audi A8 test by Top Gear and a Race to Blackpool episode). Basically, we get the feeling that the British aren't too receptive to diesels.

But with the 4th generation (and a few more Brits on PriusChat!), we start to see a slight shift towards hybrid vehicles. (and esp. reports like you who are impressed by the numbers. I don't think many Gen 3 owners hit 72 Imp. mpg combined)

The Brits are all too receptive to diesels as the govt encouraged their use with fuel duties to reduce co2 emissions a few years ago. The health consequences of Nox emissions are getting more publicity now, but people aren.t yet taking that seriously and are still buying them sadly.

    A short story:
I work with a man that owns a new G4 Prius. I asked him about his early opinion .... he said he likes the car and he achieves better than 53 mpg. Unfortunately, his wife only achieves 41 mpg when she drives. (I presume those are indicated figures)

My wife asked his wife how she likes the new car .... she said it is a nice car, but she is tired of being berated by her husband for her poor driving habits. I hope the marriage can survive the coming of winter and the lower fuel efficiency that will follow.

We all know the Prius is a remarkable vehicle with the potential for fantastic fuel efficiency. Those big numbers do not occur, however, without some attention (restraint) by the driver.

I'm only 6.5 months in. It's all good, EXCEPT for the god-awful cabin noise / road noise. I saw inside a door when the door panel was removed, and I sure didn't see any sound insulation material in there. I don't even think new tires would help. The noise coming into the cabin from other vehicles, is even LOUDER than my Toyo tires. There's just no solution...

So, just shut the heck up, and enjoy the 66 MPG! (And don't ever get on the Freeway/Expressway.)

Just purchased my 2016 Prius 4 Touring 9/11/2016 at Toyota of Escondido in southern California. This model came with the Premium Convenience pkg., a rear bumper decal and ipad holder in Blizzard Pearl with black interior. The MSRP was $33,527 and my price was $27,420. Added fees: state tax, docs, dmv. Paul DeSharzo is the Internet Sales Manager who offered this terrific deal for us. I highly recommend California residents to check his prices out before buying. The other great pricing available is through Diane at Carson Toyota. I contacted over 20 dealers in southern California with the information and these dealers offered the best deals! Our local dealers were not willing to deal with anything except the current incentive of $2000 off MSRP or $500 off and 0.0% financing. The car drives and handles great. My last car was a 2012 Prius C which has been a terrific car and will stay in the family.

This is indeed a great price. Did you get the color you wanted?

Speedometer is legislated to read high; it's an effort to get people to slow down a bit.

I doubt the odometer is 3% high: there have been lawsuits over this.

I doubt there's any correlation between speedo reading high and the optimistic mpg display: the latter is just Toyota "marketing", I think.

(We might have butted heads on this before, can't recall, lol.)

Ha ha! The Top Gear guys are all anti diesel - as millionaires can afford to be. I needed to drive diesels, to commute and as a pizza delivery boy...its around 50% of car sales in the UK are diesels.
Top Gear blokes are all into performance, so always pick petrol over diesel.
I'm lucky to earn more, so can afford the higher price of this lovely Prius these days.
Although better mpg than a diesel, if it was for outright economy on a budget i am afraid diesel might call me back.
I hope to replace our diesel CR-V with a PHEV Outlander when we can afford to...

I check my speedometer against the Police Dept radar, which is set up on a street near me. The radar flashes your speed.

I don't know which one is off, but my speedo and the radar both show the same thing.

Yes, I love the Blizzard Pearl which is one of the colors that there is an extra charge for (the red is the other and is a striking color as well). There are two interiors choices on this model; the white and the white/black moonstone. The moonstone is exciting and different but when test driving we noticed some stains on the white already and the white dash was a bit glaring. So opted with the black (which has some lovely blue contrast stitching. Good luck in your quest! We drove the new 2017 Accord Touring Hybrid, the 2017 Camry hybrid in Se and XLE trims, the 2016 Rav Hybrid, and the 2016 Lexus NX. The NX was nice but priced way out of our range at $44,000. All of these vehicles were excellent to drive but we really loved the drive, handling, interior and exterior of the Prius. With new models coming out in a few weeks, prices are outstanding on the 2016 model. The only difference in the 2017 model will be a Safety Sense upgrade but the 2016 model that we purchased has an amazing amount of safety features and the price is too good

It's nice to get exactly what you want, isn't it? Mine is white too. I went for the moonstone since I've never had that color. My previous car had a black interior.

"Harvest Beige" interior is the only way to go! :p It reminds me of being back in Kansas... and visiting with Aunty Em.

Just purchased my 2016 Touring 4 with premium pkg, bumper protector, and tablet holder for $27,400 about $6100 under msrp. The new 2017 model is coming in a few weeks so deals are out there now. The new model has safety sense on all models and will be a few hundred dollars more. The 2016 4 Touring already comes with these features. I have had this car exactly one week and like it more each time I drive it. Mpg is averaging 60. Wow!
