While backing out of a parking place today (w/very little space), I managed to hit the concrete base of a lightpole. I now have scrapes along my bumper on the left corner & rear from top to bottom. The bumper is also detaching & has created a hole below the left light. Anyone have any advice on what to do? Where to go? I'd like to be able to just take it to Toyota & let them take care of it, but I have a feeling they would rip me off. Does anyone have enough knowledge to be able to give me an impression of what I'm looking at? Could I take it to another shop or am I going to have to replace the entire bumper? The entire bumper is going to have to be replaced for me it's on my splitter up front that I've sustained damaged and I need to get the entire bumper replaced $380 mine is cosmetic as well but yours is more visible so go to your nearest body shop and get quotes in writing
A significant portion or maybe all of that paint can be taken off with the right methods for very low costs if you can live with the other damage. BTDT with my wife (hmmmm). See below.
That bumper is just a single piece of vinyl. You can learn how to remove it yourself; its not hard. The BEST is if you find a totaled Prius that's the same color, which was totaled with front end damage. Then you just replace without painting. Otherwise, you'd have to ask your Toyota dealer if they come pre-painted. To be honest, you got so lucky. It's all limited to that vinyl bumper. The expensive tail light lens is fine, the metal didn't get dented. You were within 1/4" of both of those. You really lucked out.
contact your insurance company. find out what your deductible is, and if a claim will increase your premium. ask if they have a list of recommended body shops. get an estimate and make your decision. don't sweat it, we've all been there. all the best!
Megan, Doesn't look that bad. At least the tail light lens is not cracked. I have had worst self-induced 'dents' in my years of driving. I did add a reverse sensor to my 2013. I can hear if I am reversing into something hidden. Really helps! It depends if it really bothers you, and how much you are willing to spend. Also, if you are going through your insurance company to file a claim. The hole is cosmetic, as water will just flow out the bottom of the bumper. Go to a body shop or two and see what they quote. Quotes are free! If it was me, I would get some matching touch-up paint and compound/sand and paint the scuffed up areas. A body shop would do a better job if you want to spend a few dollars. stt
There are plenty of salvage yards in SoCal. You can check with them and see if they have a bumper in your color. That is if it bothers you, otherwise keep driving.
A new OEM bumper can be had for around $200.00, they don't come painted so you will need to get it painted, that should run you around $300 to $400, taking the old off and putting the new one on is not that hard.
I would file a claim without hesitation. That said, I'm beginning to suspect insurance is a little different in Canada. Our body shop would probably sand, fill and paint that. Very lucky hit, just the "bumper".
That appears to just be the bumper cover - the decorative plastic cover that sits over the working parts of the bumper. Any one can fix that, you don't need a dealer.
That bumper needs to be replaced and it's very easy to take off. EBay sells these bumpers painted to match your car, cost is about $300. This is the cheapest way to go

It looks like $400 repair (may be $700 if replace and paint), talk to co-workers, find someone who does good job for a reasonable money. Insurance won't help you, because you probably have deductible which is higher. If you were in NorCal, I could give you a contact.
