    hello everyone,
I was running errands today and after my final stop I went to turn the car back one and it was dead. I got my friend to jump it, got home and it died again. I used my wife's car to jump it and it started again. Let it run for an hour and it's dead again...

I have done nothing out of the normal, is my battery dead or what????

sounds like it. unusual for a 2014, have you owned it since new? ever run the battery down in the past? you'll need to test/charge/replace.

that's a lot of miles, but sometimes the batteries just poop out. what is it, 2 or 3 years old? do you have a volt meter? or an auto parts store can test it.

Yup. That's a dead battery. One hour isn't nearly enough to charge a Prius battery--think 8. But your battery is probably toast. Spend $180 (ya the Prius battery is way overpriced) and get a new one and install it yourself in less than an hour.

    To be honest, I don't remember if it's a 13 or 14... I think it's a 2013. It is a Prius 3, it has the solar roof
Can I get any kind of battery???

no, there are only a couple besides toyota (yuasa). optima is one, usually mail order, batteries plus carries a duracell. maybe exide from auto parts stores, i'm not sure. you want an exact fit, correct post size, and vent tube.

you should start at the dealer, yours might have a pro rated warranty.

    Wow.

I have a 2010 Prius II with 139 k on the clock and it is still on the original battery.

Have you left the lights on or not shut a door each time? Had to have it jumped or have you jumped another car before?

Yup. It happened to me when I first bought my 09 Prius back in June. It was the original Aux battery since the car was made as it paid it dues for long 7 years and finely stopped holding a charge after jumping. Just went and got me a new battery at batteries plus, tore the back of the car apart and got to work and was rolling with in a half hour.

Mine has 163,344 miles it currently. Normally for a 7 year old car it wouldn't be any where near that high for an average driver. I bought it with 160k while I did 3k since I had it. Obviously the owner that had it before me was driving far beyond 15k a year mostly Hwy to rack the mileage up quick in a short amount of time for a fairly young car. The mileage may not be much of a big deal if keeping the car until the wheels far off, but when it comes to selling it or trading it in, the resale value will suffer substantially with high mileage regardless how old the car is. Just driving it every day keeping the battery cell's excised helps extends the Hybrid battery life span. I'm considering ordering a grid charger later on.

Solar roof is on a IV. No, you need a special battery that's properly vented. Check 12V battery threads on here.
