Like they say in the ads - YMMV -Your mileage may vary.
    Perhaps they should add "widely".

A good test would be to have the same driver follow the same route in a car with 15 and then 17 inch wheels. I have the 15 inch wheels and now have an average of 79.6mpg over the first 5000 miles as calculated at the pump. The UK ratings are for 84mpg for the 17 inch wheels and 94mpg for the 15 inch, a big difference. In dry, warm and calm weather and with fair traffic I will see 90mpg plus on the screen over 80 miles of travel and recently I managed 102mpg over 25 miles so I do believe the official 94mpg, even if it is hard to achieve.

OMG, a 2 mpg hit for 17" wheels over 15"
I think I can live with my 17"s if I keep taking the pills.
The biggest advantage of 15" wheels IMO is just the cost of the tyres, when it comes to replacement.
Some say the ride is softer, but I can't say the ride is harsh at all on my 17"s, it's very comfortable in fact, so the ride on the 15"s must be luxurious.:)

Im pretty happy with the 80+ MPG (displayed) that I get on my 8 miles commute to work, so the 17's are just fine for me and they look great.

Each to their own I know, but the Prius on 15's just looks like a totally different car to one on 17's

80mpg is very good on a short run so perhaps the declared "low" mpg figures for the 17 inch wheel option are not correct.

    I reckon so.

Last weekend did a trip to Bournemouth and back which is just over 100 miles for me and the average (displayed) for the day was 74.3MPG and that is with AC on 21 Auto. The route is a mixture of Motorway and B roads and a bit of trotting around the town.

All of my figures are in 'Normal' mode :)

I'm loving the ride comfort of the 15's. We have bad roads here so I appreciate the extra sidewall too. My driving is Normal mode with AC around 72. About 53% EV.

Pretty much the same results with my wide tires. High speeds and rain kills the MPG more than weight and hilly terrain has a negative impact. Empty at low to moderate speeds, in dry weather, and flat terrain this beast is incredible. Use ECO mode but in my case it does not mater since I drive like a 120 year old man.

BTW I started a thread 14 months ago on this topic related to tire pressure. However, seems I dorked up the categories of tire pressure as I did not take into account that some folks use the factory recommended pressures. I am always on 42PSI and now the dealers never blink an eye when I request 42PSI. No visible tire wear at 19K.
Tire pressure and driving habits have a significant impact on MPG with the OEM tires. However over 42PSI you get diminishing returns with harsh ride and control issues. Ran 51PSI on my four Hondas.
BTW/ the brand, type, and place of tire manufacture greatly affect MPG. But the nut behind the wheel is a huge factor.:ROFLMAO:

Actually that is "your mozzarella may vary" depending on where you buy your pizza.

Last week, I used the website, called waybackmachine, to examine what the Fuelly numbers looked like for the 2012 Prius v, back in 2013 and it wasn't a bell curve, like it shows today. The numbers were kinda hodge podge, but by 2014 it started to look more even. Once tires have to be replaced, that throws another variable into the mix, as some people don't replace them with LRR tires and I assume that mpg averages will take a hit.
