We bought another Prius so parts would be welcome, we own 5 Prius including the wrecked one. Should we sell the wreck or fix it? I am picking it up Wednesday and will probably consider fixing it or selling it for someone to fix, the insurance company valued it at 5300 it's an 04 we have owned it since 50000 miles it's got 105000 on it now. It was owned by an elderly couple before us that's why it's got low miles on it. It's got everything including nav. We hate to see it waisted we have taken good care of all of our Prius cars changed trans fluid antifreeze plugs PCV at proper timing, both front bearings are newer as all were replaced, when one side went out I did both sides and new brake pads all at once. Hate to see the car parted out but what do you think?
If you need the car, it could be fixed fairly reasonably I believe. If you don't need it, it may be worth it to keep it for parts for the other 2nd gen cars you have. If you want the money, try fixing it up to sell.
We stopped and checked the car out when we took our daughter back to college today, checked it out for if it started up to see if we can drive it onto a trailer, it fired right up forward reverse steering all good. Picking it up Thursday.
I vote fix it, especially If the engine is working okay. Would need at least a new hood and front bumper (less than $250 combined if you're willing to do the painting, probably $500 painted). Neither of these parts is particularly difficult to replace yourself with a bit of elbow grease. I'd work to pull the old hood off and then see what needs replacing and estimate the total cost and amount of time. The far passenger side of the car is actually a very good place to get hit from a repair perspective - mostly just your windshield wiper and brake fluid reservoirs, air intake, and headlight.
