Park Assist puts me more than 12 inches from the curb in parallel mode.

I have the same question.

 

How far away from the curb are the vehicles you parked between? My understanding is that it doesn't "see" the curb; it lines up with the other cars.

Other vehicles are usually less far from the curb than Prius is.
It would be good to know methodology Prius uses to calculate the centerline to use for lineup with other cars.

I don't think the park assist will engage if you're too far away (>1m).

Only two real comments:

1) Does the car program start from the distance you are along the currently parked car (mentioned in post # 5) in front before reverse engages?

That would make sense to me, using geometry, and that distance/ closeness to the other car could vary the amount the wheels end up from the curb.

2) What's the legal distance to avoid a parking ticket?

Is it 12 to 18 inches from the curb (USA Calif) .....I don't recall.

(Yes, hoping the parking program it is adjustable!)

 

Park assist uses the outside edge of the cars in front and behind to gauge where to turn, so if you these cars are either very far from the curb or really wide, you will end up with a bit of a gap from the curb. But your car should end up parallel to the car in front

I have had the same issue and I posted my result here - front and back it was really tight (so much so it refused to help me to get out - I managed as I am quite used to this "narrowness" and the rear camera is an excellent help), but I was 5-10cm too far away from the curb IMO, also compared to the cars front/back. Another time I used it, the rear wheel was really far away (it parked almost "diagonally" wrt the curb...).

I have to try again, in a quiet road, to see what it does and where I make a mistake. Maybe I start too close to the front car, or I don't start straight, or I don't notice that the front/rear car are parked farther away from the curb and they are not the same width.
In any case I was never parked so bad to get a ticket.
Reverse parking works really well instead although I have very few cases I need to use it.

 

Sorry I gave up and pull into a slot. I see the utility of this for congested areas which I always avoid like the plague. My wife freaks out when testing this one item.

 

I just took my new Four out to try the parking assist on a quiet street . . . and I had the opposite problem. Too close! Tires scraped curb . Maybe related that i actually tried it out like I would teach a new driver - behind one car with nobody behind mine. Maybe it does need somebody behind to mimic.
When i did try placing it between two cars (medium sized space), it got so close to the car behind, that i chickened out and put it into 'D' and centered it. But i didn't scrape the curb. I need to learn how the camera image corresponds to reality.

I think the Gen 4 bases the position of where it ends up on the cars front and back, so if they are parked close to the curb (or Kerb as we Brits call it) then yours will end up close and vice versa. I haven't tried it on a space where the cars are parked on the Kerb yet.
