Hello, Im currently in the market looking at a prius IV with about 90k mileage on it. This package has the solar roof included. I've heard about the 2010 models having more issues than 2011+ with the control valve etc. Asking price is 11k. Do you all think this is a good deal?
Unless this car is in "Excellent" condition, IMO the price seems a little high. Run Kelley Blue Book for a good price comparison for more information. YMMV. The only thing I have heard on the 2010's is folks talking about oil usage, but it seems it is not only confined to the 2010's. The newer models are showing this here and there also. It seems there is no real pattern to this, but you should be aware of this. Best of luck to you.
I have a 2015 with the solar roof. That is the best option in the history of automobiles to me. I will never buy another car that doesn't offer this option. I'm sorry I can't help you with the specifics on the car you are looking at but I can tell you in a climate like Houston you will love that option.
There is no "control valve" in the solar roof design. Although an expensive option when new, it functions very well. I liken its cooling effect to leaving your windows cracked an inch or so but without all the safety and dust issues.
I have the Weathertech side window deflectors and leave the windows open in combination with the solar option. Together it makes the inside temperature seem identical to the outside. I'd also do the same with the rear windows but Toyota made them so a vertical gap opens so the deflectors can't keep the rain out.
