What is the Future of Prius v (yet again for people, it is a lowercase v for the Prius v wagon)

    Sales are slow because gas prices are low, lots of people buying pigs...wait till the prices go back up. Resale value on hybrids will be back up too. Great time to get a great haggle on a hybrid.

    I own a 12 v and will replace it with a new version, when available. I will not replace it with a face lifted version of what I already have. If the v is discontinued, I've no idea with what I will replace it when the time comes.

    I wanted to upgrade too but didnt do so as i was losing a lot in selling my current one

    So bought a whole lot of stuff to facelift my 2011 to look like a 2015

    Lets see how it goes

    But coming to the point

    From a strategic view point

    If Toyota ends production of any member of the Prius Family its sure to have a big impact on the other family members

    So i wudnt do so if i were Toyota

    Not selling the 7-seat Prius Plus in the US is the reason I never even looked at a V. I looked at a 2012 Rav4 with thrid-row and ultimately bought a Mazda5 with third-row. I used it yesterday to haul more people than you could put in a v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon. Only the 2010 Prius used uppercase roman numerals for model designation).

    To me, the v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon. Only the 2010 Prius used uppercase roman numerals for model designation) makes no sense without the third-row, and they've eliminated that option in the Rav4, so that leaves nothing but the Highlander Hybrid, which is a non-starter for me because of cost, mileage and driving performance (I like vehicles with low CGs).

    If they were to update the v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon. Only the 2010 Prius used uppercase roman numerals for model designation) and actually bring the 7-seater to the US, I'd be interested. Otherwise, I'm keeping the Mazda5 and looking to a regular Prius for my other car.

    Thought you had a 28 year old Mazda6 (Wouldn't that have been the 626 era? Had 2 of them). I can't imagine any 7 bodies fitting into the 7 passenger v (Alpha) for any length of trip like your vacation trips. Doesn't the third row impinge on the seat travel the second row has?

    I rent van for those trips. We have enough trouble fitting 7 in my DIL's Sienna and 3 of those are 6-8-11 year olds. And when we need room for 8 or 9 as we sometimes do, we just take 2 cars. You just can't buy a single vehicle that fits every need.

    I have little kids. At 4'1" and 4'9", they have no problem. And the third row (of my 2012 Mazda5 - same size as a v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon. Only the 2010 Prius used uppercase roman numerals for model designation)) doesn't impinge on the second row at all. They share space. Putting a 6-footer in the third row is no problem if the second row is pushed forward from the back most position. I have had it filled with people in a range of sizes many times.

    After totaling my 2014 HB, wife has been driving my Lincoln MKZ, and she fusses about her gas mileage. We had planned to get the new generation ''v'' or a Lexus CT200H--- which it appears will be discontinued. This indicates to me that the ''v'' will not be refreshed either. Hhmmm, perhaps we should get a 2017 ''v'' while we can, as she LOVED her '12 ''v''. Lexus says the sales are not too swell, 16K CT200 sold last year and are going to a ''crossover''. Common sense dictates that Toyota will remove the ''v'' as the CT200 is just a plush ''v''. The good news is--- all the bugs are now long gone from the ''v'' by now and is a super reliable auto.

    As another member said above, the v's reclining rear seats are a much appreciated feature, so says my daughter, especially when she wants to take a nap back there on road trips :D(y)

    The displayed mpg on my wife's 2014 v three is still right around 37.... She is not a hypermiler obviously!! Lol. :p:whistle:

    The CT200h is not really a plush v mostly because of the size difference between the two. The CT200h is about the same size as a Prius c (but a smaller interior). The Prius v is quite a bit longer and larger inside.

    You are right in there are rumours that Lexus will push the next generation CT as a sub-compact crossover to slot below the NX to compete with the GLA, X1, Q30 etc.

    There's been no talk of the Prius c or Prius v yet either by the rumourmill or any spyshots. Hopefully Toyota will develop the Prius v into something more lucrative (if it thinks the v won't sell in its current form). It'll have to differentiate itself from the RAV4 which I'm sure is stealing sales from the v.

    Maybe try offering AWD wagon similar to an Outback or Golf Alltrak? It'll be a bit smaller and cheaper than the RAV4, offer more cargo space, better mpg. Or even make it a plug-in?

    Or offer it as a 7-seater urban runabout (i.e. it's not for those who want to seat 7 + cargo.. that's what a minivan is for. It's for those who need to ferry passengers within the city and double it as a workhorse on the weekend to carry building supplies or garden supplies)

    They already built that one, and didn't bring it to the US. I would almost certainly have bought one had they, but ended up with a lightly used 2012 Mazda5 instead. One time, I parked it right next to a v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon. Only the 2010 Prius used uppercase roman numerals for model designation). I couldn't believe how identically sized and shaped the two cars were.

    Hhmmm, always thought the CT was just a spiffy ''v''. I really like the ''F-Sport'' CT, and suspect they handle well. I guess we will just wait and see, if push comes to shove, they make a MKZ hybrid with similar m.p.g. with the ''v''. The ''v'' is MUCH more handy to travel in though, as nice as the MKZ rides and is much quieter on the highway. The both of us just love the Prius family, and they are hands down more reliable than the Lincoln family, something for old folks to consider--which we are.

    Too bad the v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon. Only the 2010 Prius used uppercase roman numerals for model designation) is left to linger like the Nissan Leaf .

    I wanted to replace an old suburban with one but would prefer the lithium battery that the gen iv gets.

    Hope Toyo doesn't discontinue it.

    Lets pretend you are the Toyota Prius brand manager and you have some fixed number of designers and engineers.

    Gen n of the Liftback clearly come first, that gets the most sales. (2016)
    The PHV is a minor body mod of the Liftback, so can be done the next year (2017)
    The v is a different car with the same drivetrain as the Liftback, so the body designers can work on it while the engine folks are working on the PHV (2018)
    The c is a different car, with no parts in common, so it takes the longest to get Gen n technology. (2019)
    Then the Liftback gets Gen n+1 upgrades. (2021)

    (If i was buying a Gen 4 today I would want a Two, as it has the proven NiMH batteries, not the LiION batteries that do not have decades of successful life)

    Keep in mind that the Li-ion batteries have been used in Toyota hybrids for about 5 years, at least - the 7-seater rest-of-world version of the Prius v has a Li-ion pack.
