I took delivery of my 2016 Prius 4 ATP/PCP last week and, hands down, this is the best car I've ever owned. My only problem is my HUD doesn't seem to work. I've tried turning it off and back on several times. When I adjust the position of the display using the MID I can see the mirror in the dash moving. But, no HUD. Simple question: What can/should I check before taking it back to the dealer for repair? I hate to look like an idiot!
I say embrace your idiocy. A good dealership should be more than happy to help you in this regard. Whether you are missing something obvious OR it's just broken. And that's kind of why we have new car warranties. A wise man once told me "There are no dumb questions. Only very stupid people, asking incredibly ignorant questions, that reveal their inability to grasp understanding.". I asked him what he meant by that.
You can control the HUD from two places. One is via the Settings menu on the multi-information display - check you brightness setting there. The other place is a mechanical switch below and to the left of the steering wheel.
You're not stupid. When you press the HUD button, the screen next to the speedometer should tell you to press up or down on the steering wheel circular control (left side of the steering wheel). This will project the HUD up and down. Move the HUD up and down until you can see it (or it's broken). The confusing thing about HUDs are that you have to have the HUD screen in your exact line of sight. Nobody else is able to see the HUD except you.
