Autos.ca: 2016 Prius LED Headlight Review

    I think it's also a cost issue. Like I said, in Europe it is a law to have at least the auto leveling. In NA, not so much. If Toyota is looking to cut costs, that is a perfect thing to do - however it comes at the expense of safety for all of us in NA.

    Yeah I'm not sure. Headlight washers come and go because they're not required by law on non-halogen cars. I thought auto-levelling, even though not required, can be considered a hazard if not included with HID/LEDs so it's almost always included.


    Also, I was wrong about pakitt's car. Apparently he does have the halogen lights :oops:.

    My Gen3 had halogen.
    My Gen4 comes standard with full LED lights. I think only the blinkers are still regular bulbs (cheaper and add zero to the overall efficiency since they are practically never used in the entire life time of the car - they are practically always off).
    If in NA auto-levelling is not provided, do you have a in-vehicle knob to regulate height, depending on load?

    Here, our brochure says:

    "Up front Bi-LED headlamps with Auto-levelling and Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) show the way ahead."

    Nothing in the brochure for Canada or the US. The technical PDF does show a "rear height control sensor sub-assembly"

    In -Canada-, by regulation, HID and LED headlamps MUST have auto-leveling. Unless they've changed the regs.
    In -Europe-, cars must have a leveling knob in the cabin, though the auto-leveling may bypass that requirement.

    But maybe I'm behind the times. ;)

    Really? I thought only European had that load-levelling requirement. I don't think Canada/US does.

    I can't find anything on it (Transport Canada, Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, Motor Vehicle Act or the provincial highway code) on headlight aiming other than the "factory setting" must conform to the UN standards.

    You guys are joking right??? Yes, I am sure the high beams are not on.

    Please tell me you are all kidding? YES, I am SURE they are not my high beams. I do a lot of driving in the country so maybe it's because it's darker at night? Idk, but yeah, def not my highs.

    "Internationalised ECE Regulation 48, in force in most of the world outside North America, currently specifies a limited range within which the vertical aim of the headlamps must be maintained under various vehicle load conditions; if the vehicle isn't equipped with an adaptive suspension sufficient to keep the headlamps aimed correctly regardless of load, a headlamp leveling system is required.[10] The regulation stipulates a more stringent version of this antiglare measure if the vehicle has headlamps with low beam light source(s) that produce more than 2,000 lumens – xenon bulbs and certain high-power halogens, for example. Such vehicles must be equipped with headlamp self-leveling systems that sense the vehicle's degree of squat due to cargo load and road inclination, and automatically adjust the headlamps' vertical aim to keep the beam correctly oriented without any action required by the driver.[10]"
