I'm so upset right now. I took my brand new 2016 car into the local tint shop for tint. Once they were done, the car's front Windshield wiper would not turn off. Despite the lever on the off position, the wipers kept going off. They tried to blow air off from all the door panels but couldn't get it to stop. Ultimately, they just pulled out the fuse and told me to come back in a couple of days. Anyone any ideas? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Is the screen dirty - my wipers turn on if there's just a trace of mist on the screen - but they have to be in the "AUTO" position first.
What screen are you referring to? Everything is in the off position Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
My guess would be: if you take the time on your own to track the problem down (wiring diagram helps), you might eventually find the exact spot where some wiring got damaged, a connector improperly reconnected, or the like, and after finding that exact spot, you might be able to think about why they would have been near that spot on a tint job, and then you could come up with a respectable theory of what happened. I'd also guess that if you just take it back to them to fix, they'll probably fix, but probably never give you the straight story on whatever they figure out they did. I don't have a Gen 4 wiring diagram. You might want to check in it to see whether the wiper's actually controlled by the Body ECU (that is, is the wiper switch on the column just an input to the ECU, with the ECU responsible for driving the wiper relays/motors?). If that's the case, you might get an improvement if you interrupt the 12 volt supply for a bit, just to get the ECU to reboot. Maybe in doing the work they created some brief electrical glitch that confused it. -Chap
Looks like alanclarkeau is from down under, and would say windscreen where we say windshield. I didn't think of that? Does your model have the auto, rain-sensing wipers? Could the tint shop have left some conductive material over wherever the rain sensing element happens to be? To be honest, I don't know exactly how the rain sensing is supposed to work: whether it's just electrical conductivity, or some other way of detecting. The New Car Features Manual is where such things get explained. -Chap
sorry - windscreen/windshield. From watching a car (years ago) being tinted, the only electrical items which, that time, were interfered with were the door panels - with window and mirror switches, and the rear window, where they unplugged the heater element while they were tinting the rear screen, and re-plugged the terminals in. It could be worth checking that they've been reconnected - and that the rear window heater works.
As far as auto sensing, I don't have that. I have the base model 2. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I'm having this issue now after the tint shop says they drained my brand new battery today putting tint all around. What file fixed your issue?
