Found these on a Japanese site.. Photos were from the following link: 【トヨタ プリウスPHV 新型】EV走行60kmで犠牲になったもの | レスポンス(Response.jp) FYI...a google translation of the article revealed a discussion on the Prime, but no mention of the TDR package.
Briefly seen at 4:24 in this Japanese review of the Prius Prime posted on YouTube: (video is worth watching just to get a better look at the Prime..enjoy)
Having the complete TRD body kit, TRD exhaust, and TRD wheels...probably makes it qualify. Being spotted at the Toyota test facility is just icing on the cake.
In the photos & video posted above you may have noticed this blue Prius Prime next to the red TRD version. The added bling is likely some of the accessories (non-TRD) to be available from Toyota...chrome stripes on window line and along rear diffuser, and boomerang body side moulding. It appears to have the current Touring wheels, but with the black plastic inserts.
Just to be clear however, the TRD version just -looks- faster. It isn't really, but I'll bet it's better at extracting money from your wallet. Those accessories are bound to be very expensive. It makes sense, sort of, because the Japanese aren't "allowed" to have fast cars, it's considered anti-social. But a car that looks fast is ok. And when you drive in a cookie cutter car culture having a car that looks even -slightly- different is a bonus!
Looks great imo - stock wheels look impossibly wimpy, and not just because they're small. I think they're inspired by retro OZ Rally racing wheels. Those are hub caps.
Interesting: My off-the-cuff reaction was that the wheel covers look a little better, although a bit dated, but otherwise, it doesn’t really look all that much different. (Referring to the red TRD, that is.) I’m starting to disagree with myself, though, regarding the wheels. I still think it doesn’t look all that much different, all in all. It’s a kinda tough comparison: The original Prius Prime wheel covers don’t look too great either, in my view. It’s basically dorky vs. dated! I personally prefer the regular-Prius (Gen.-4) wheel covers. Typed by Mr88cet’s dancing thumbs
actually, interestingly enough, if you take a close look at the pictures of the interior notice the headrests... They are the low-profile when down type (there's another longer discussion about the headrests going on somewhere on the prime forum). I wonder if these can be swapped to us models?
