04 Broken auto leveling headlights - fixed!

Just want to say thanks to you and the other posters. I have 2005 Prius that developed the headlamp leveling fault couple years ago, then miraculously cured itself...only to return this summer and not go away. So, 11 years in to ownership, and years after the initial helpful posts on this problem, I bought a replacement OEM part, and installed it myself. I would not have been able to diagnose, identify replacemenr part, and install without all your helpful information. My sincere thanks!

 

Thanks so much for taking the time to document this. My 04's level sensor just went at 180,000 miles. I'm in Boston, where corrosion is the norm in winter...

 

It's not that bad a fix (unless you are working outside in a Boston winter)

 

I just posted my workaround fix to this; with the $20 part, the fix involves slipping under the car, disconnecting the harness connector from the bad assembly and attaching a newly purchased sensor, set to the middle of its potentiometer range, and zip-tying the new sensor onto the car securely...
