I was at the Toyota dealer today for scheduled maintenance on our 2015 Prius. As I waited I walked around the showroom and sat in a 2016 Prius. Of course a salesman came by and asked if I wanted to take it home. I rattled off the list of small changes Toyota had made to the 2016 that didn't please me. When I mentioned the bone white accents he said that was the #1 complaint of people who were looking at the 2016 Prius. It is interesting to note too that the car in the showroom already had the black applique installed. My guess is the dealer is trying to minimize the push-back from potential customers by covering up much of the white. The applique is shiny black; I think it would have looked better if it was not shiny. It looks cheap.
yes, many reports here of dealers and customers doing that. just the fact that they came out with the kit so quick, makes you realize they knew it was an error. at least in the u.s.
I must be the only one in the world who likes it. Oddly enough, the model Four with ATP/PCP moonstone car they found for me had the black appliqué installed. Since it was the only one they could find, I took it. I should add that this is the only car I've seen recently that doesn't have silver painted components in the dash or steering wheel. The piano black and white porcelain are much more attractive in my opinion. Of course, I realize my opinion seems rather odd to most.
You're not the only one. I have the moonstone interior, and with the white accents it looks like a spaceship, which I really like!
Exactly. That's why I wanted the moonstone interior to match. Go with the flow. The black looks good too so I'm not too upset. I think the white would be really nice at night to help find stuff. In any case, the appliqué does show some white in the cup holders which doesn't leave orphaned the patch on the steering wheel. Been watching the gear heads do reviews? They all say that! I think they've lifted it off a Toyota cheat sheet.
Honestly, I don't have a problem with it being white... And it has a nice pearl white sparkle in the sun, so it's not like it's a boring flat white. The gloss back shows fingerprints easily. The applique is more of an artificial covering, IMO. I'd rather leave the car as is, but oh well, it was already added - so I'll live with it. At least it doesn't look too bad with the applique either.
I think the dealer is being proactive if the white is a major "turnoff" or objection so why not? Consumer could negotiate the dealer added price on the sticker. Art & design....some like it some don't. In the 1970's I think the console would have been a fluorescent pink neon color...we may be lucky with wht & blk. Else, with all the wrap/ covering these days....why not switch colors every year for fun? Just some of my two cents on the subject.
While you could well be right in his case, the appliqué was listed on the Monroney sticker on the car I bought back in January-- which makes me think it could have been put on in Japan.
Such a strange situation: factory applied piano-black appliqué over factory installed porcelain white.
Probably installed at port? Isn't that where they print/affix the stickers anyway? Dealer-installed vs. port-installed options | PriusChat
The Two Eco don't bring any . I got the black console. I prefer the white one. I think a choice between the two would have been better. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
The white console and steering wheel is why I got the blizzard pearl with moonstone interior. I really wanted the Gen 4 but didn't love the white plastic inserts. I felt it only looked appropriate with BP and moonstone. My 3 year old nephew says I drive a "stormtrooper car" lol. I've also gotten comments about the blue vents and seat stitching looking out of place with the color scheme. And then with the tan interior option is just looks all weird. Not sure what the design team was thinking with that interior. It'd be awesome to see some swatches made for the white plastics.
I'm in the "like" camp. You don't even notice it when driving. The "Fine White China" (don't ever call it a urinal! ) is unique and goes well with the Blizzard Pearl exterior color. I got so tired of all black interiors... no offense to anyone. And the white console does sparkle at times if the sun hits it right. There was a comment recently, one guy said his black appliqué was already coming loose? Or getting scratches? Something like that. And it doesn't match the black sparkly plastic on the dash.
