With "mileage to fill up" - very often the first fill is inaccurate if the dealer has "filled" it for delivery.. Dealers know how little to put in the tank to make the gauge read FULL, but could be a gallon or more less than full. I'd fill it (to first click?) and monitor from there.

Two times, I filled my tank so that it overflowed a bit. I went beyond the fuel pump "click off."
But I sure got great mileage out of that tank!

 

Got a great price but they told me 500 then 750. Have no idea how they figured all the discounts plus trade allowance but the bottom line was good. Drive off the lot is what you are looking for.

As I mentioned on another thread, the prices on the 2016's are coming down so much, I might trade mine back in, and start over! Get the RED one I originally wanted.

I traded in a red camry on white Prius, good luck keeping the red clean. They are pretty though.

 

My friend bought a new Honda Accord and was presented with an 'interior and exterior protection package' from a company named Permaplate. Look up their website. I think it's mostly a BS package for these reasons:

1) The Permaplate product can only be purchased by dealers. Individuals cannot purchase it for application if they want to reapply

2) Permaplate uses a type of fear tactic showing people spilling coffee in their new car or sitting on ink pens on their seats, neither problem I would have. See website

2a) There are many Youtube videos showing a snake oil type of salesguy at dealers doing a sketchy demo where he puts Permaplate on car's hood, spray paints the area, then heats it with a flame and wipes paint off. I think it's probably a phoney demo. Seems the flame heats paint enough to remove it.

3) The interior 'stuff' they apply leaves a sort of greasy, slickish look on the interior door and dash trim.

4) They claim the exterior 'sealant' lasts a super long time, but they don't say how long. They expect you to come back to the dealer to have it reapplied periodically.

PAINT PROTECTION - I had it applied to a car 10 yrs ago, as my previous car had been damaged by Bat Poop (I lived in their flight path). The thing which struck me was that in the 3 yrs I kept the car, it was so easy to clean - Bat Poop would hose off, occasionally needing a gentle wipe, whereas previously it needed to be scrubbed. I didn't put it on my next car, as I'd shifted house, but it got hit with Bat Poop when it was 3 weeks old (as did that previous car which I hadn't sold by then). The NEW car (which I'd waxed) had the clear-coat removed from the bonnet, the OLD car, I just hosed off. To respray the bonnet of the NEW car would have cost more than Paint Protection would have cost me ($450 from memory). When I replaced that car 3 yrs later, I had Paint Protection applied - and did the Prius 2 weeks ago. Not only does it protect the paint, but it is so easy to keep clean, driving on a wet motorway, it largely sheds most dirty water. My last car was silver, and I washed it only 2 or 3 times a year - except the windows. The other thing, it has a better gloss than new.

No, it isn't wax. There are a few different compounds - I think mine is called Glassplexin, but the previous car was a type of PTFE. I understand that there is a newer type - was more expensive, supposedly better still called something like ceramic nanotechnology - the 3 types had different prices.

Generally, the dearest way is to get it through your dealer - they'll put the cheaper version on and charge the middle (or upper) price.

 

Interesting, in-depth counterpoint. Wonder if someone like Consumer Reports has reviewed the offerings.

 

Now those would wear in the middle at high pressures. But never, so far, have had steel belted radials wore in the middle with proper alignment and balance on cars I have owned and the way I drive.

Does the Gen 4 transmission still have the "B" gear? I use that on my 2012 Prius when going down hills. It saves the brakes. I noticed in pics of dash there was no "B"......

I would just use B coming down mountains. Short downgrades, you're just reducing charging, not saving the brakes.

 

Seems kind of useless. Does anyone have a story to tell and lived to tell it?

 

I got my 2016 Prius Eco home today, 70 mile trip today, 68.5 MPG

Out the door price was $22,149. This included sales tax, registration fee and dealer fee. The window sticker reads it has $1,266 factory options that includes Toyoguard Elite $699, carpet mats $299, clear paint protection $199, phone cable & charge package $69.

 

Wow, the prices sure have come down..
