It happened to me again Friday. This time I shut the car off immediately and waited. I would say 2 to 3 minutes later I heard a noise in the dash (like a soleniod switch) and the led light was off. I proceeded to start the car and it was working normal again. I did not have a partial charge the day before. Actually the car was unused all day Thursday (Thanksgiving) but was plugged in. The VLT was 11.4 when I checked before starting the car. I wonder if the cold weather is lowering the voltage enough to be a problem. It seems like the charging was sensitive to lower voltages with smaller gauge wire and cord length. Could the entire pack is sensitive to lower voltages at certain times. Maybe we could figure out to have a battery tender connected from the HV pack?

    boxer93,
I had the same experience the last time I got the flashing LED. I just kept driving till my next stop, I was out of the car for 3-5 minutes, then when I was back in the car everything had reset and Hymotion was functioning normal again.

My voltage was good the entire time though, so that wasn't it. I think it was simply a communication error. It just needed to reset via the timeout period.

Saucy Red - I have had LED flashes as well. When I spoke to one of the technicians at the Green Car Co., he told to me to count the short ones & include the final long flash. Don't count the first long flash - only the short flashes that start after that + the final long flash. He needs to know how you count the flashes, so everyone is on the same page. When I counted this way, I had the magic 14. I'm hoping that the firmware update will fix this without having to replace the 12 volt battery yet.

I have now seen 7 flashes. I believe it was a charger error of some sort that was user error. The car was off and I was plugging in the charger cord when I saw a small arc, it was wet that day. I unplugged it immediately did a brief check and reconnected the cord. No red tail lights. I checked the dash and the led was flashing 7 times. I unplugged the cord and waiting a few minutes for the unit to timeout. I reconnected the cord and everything was normal. PeakOil, any luck getting a list of codes.

It looks like this thread has been dormant for a while, but I'm having a problem with my Hymotion battery and wonder if anyone has had similar problems or has any new information since the last post.

I had my Hymotion battery installed several months ago and was initially very happy with the performance of the battery. However, after a month it quit charging. I was getting different numbers of flashing error codes, the most frequent being 7 flashes in a row. After a while, the dashboard Hymotion switch light turned off and wouldn't turn on.

After taking it back to the installer, and it taking days for Hymotion to diagnose, they replaced my pack and said it was the charger. Yesterday, after driving it home from work and the battery fully discharging, I saw the 7 flashes again. I tried plugging in the battery but the tail lights did not come on. The dashboard switch blinked for a while and then turned off. Plugging it in several times did not reestablish communication between the Prius battery and the Hymotion battery.

This is rather frustrating, and I have to take my Prius back in again to the installer. It seems fishy that this has happened again, as if either the product is faulty or there is some sequence of events that causes this problem. Any thoughts would be welcome.

I dont think this will help since you have a different issue but make sure your 12v battery is good. If you car still has the original 12v battery go ahead and get it replaced anyway. The Hymotion battery has issues with a weak 12v but it can detect that and give you a different flash code.

Thanks for the suggestion and I'll definitely keep that one in mind if things don't work out. The update to the situation is that I tried plugging it in again last night, the tail lights came on and I had a full charge this morning. The system must have reconnected itself after the car being off for a while.

I'm taking it in on Monday for a full diagnostic check (and have a block heater installed), so we'll see if that turns up anything. I've asked to hear from Hymotion as to whether this behavior is a known issue, what may cause it and how to interpret the flashing light. Not confident I'll get anything back from Hymotion on this. It would be nice if they would be more forthcoming with information with the early adopters. After all, we are their best representatives if we like the product.

BTW, how much did the 12V replacement run you? It doesn't appear to be a standard battery available at an auto supply store.

I'm not certain of the genII, but the genI battery is vented to the outside. The Optima does not have the vent tube connections, and will vent to the inside of the car. This is not good.

I have a bunch of Optimas, but didn't put them in my Prius, I used a Mazda Miata battery instead. It is actually a MUCH smaller (and thus lighter!) battery than either, and has the vent tube connection. They are only $89 at Autozone (in stock..).

Now perhaps it will go bad after a year? who knows, but they have 3-year + lifetime warranty from Autozone.

I bought one of the Optima batteries listed above and the kit includes a vent tube (didn't use) and a connector for the OEM vent tube. Worked great.

I had the 13 flashes this morning. Ebh not plugged in and about -10C ambient. Scii had the fwt at 31 when it was started. I just shut it off and waited for the flashing to stop. Restarted the car all was well that can be in these temps.

I see this is an old thread ... perhaps someone can clarify this for me.

My hymotion led indicator does the following pattern: 13 short blinks then 1 long blink (and repeat). Is this error code 13 or 14?

    Hi!
I bought a 2007 Prius with the Hymotion A123 kit installed. It isn't working.

I have 11 flashes (including the last long one), on the Hymotion switch.
I can't find the codes anywhere and no one seems to be fixing them anymore.
I've tried resetting the prius with the turn off and back on 5 times method.

    Can anyone please help?
    Blessings!
