I ask because a friend is considering a Gen 4. I explained that my Gen 2 was not very good in the snow. The Gen 2 wouldn't spin a wheel. It would detect it so fast and the car would stand still. And no way to turn it off. Also the car has no ground clearance, so quickly the car was floating on top of deep snow. So is the gen 4 any better. To my surprise I spun a wheel pulling out of a parking lot.
Last year was a mild winter in MA but the car performed fine in what snow there was -- I bought the car in late January. That said, if one has ever had to be concerned about ground clearance in a factory spec'd car, they operate in such an extraordinarily different environment than I have for the past 40 years (including more than a few in Rochester, NY) that my experience is of little value. In my world, ground clearance only comes into play when deciding on whether or not to ram through the mound left by the plow at the end of my driveway.
Yup, I got my car at the end of February? It snowed a few times. I drove it even in our unplowed neighborhoods one day. (Using the all season tires it came with, we don't do snow tires here)
