Yesterday I went to pull out the 12v charger for my Dell Axim that was in the center console and the 12v socket came out with it. It pulled out about 1 inch before I could free the charger from its grasp. Now the 12v outlet doesn't work and my hidden drawer will not pull out all the way. I can feel the drawer hitting somthing - possibly the wire from the back of the 12v socket.

So how do I get the console off or access the back of the socket and wire? This might be warranty or they may blame me for having to big a plug. I would rather just do this myself if it is not too involved.

You have to remove both front seats to access screws on the sides of the center console. Then it's just a matter of undoing all the screws/fasteners to get the skin off.

I dont think you have to remove the seats. I removed the 2 bolts in the bottom of the center console. You have to lift up the rubber thing in the botton to acces them. and remove the 2 front side screws. and I think maybe the rear and front cup holders. and if i remember correctly there are 2 screws in the top front also? I dont remember if they had to be removed or not but I did not have to remove the seats at all. You might have to move them back a little to get access to the front screws.

When I had the wired remote for the Kenwood routed into the storage box of the center console, the Best Buy guys didn't have to remove the front seats at all. They just slide the seats all the way forward and back to access the center console mounting bolts.

It probably would've been easier to work on the whole area especially the amp with the seats gone, but it's not a requirement.

No need to remove the seats.

Pull the front trim off by just pulling up at the bottom of the very front of the console. That whole piece pops off. Undo the screws on the sides that were hidden by that trim. Pull up the carpet at the bottom of the inside of the console and take those screws off. Remove console. NOW you can remove the seats if you wish. ;)

I didn't realize there were screws under the carpet that could be used to remove the center console whole. So I rescind my suggestion to remove the seats.

Thanks for the help everyone. It took about 15 minutes to repair.

Awesome. I love it when a plan comes together. It was another friendly PC'er who tipped me off to the console carpet screw hider trick!

Since some of you have had the console apart, how is the audio jack wired? Is there some type of plug on that as well? Just wondering if I can tuck a ground isolation circuit in there on the other side of the jack.
