I'm assuming Toyota may be trying to pack more standard advanced tech features to better compete with the latest '17 Accord Hybrid base trim and other competitors as well...

Yes indeed. I was at the Toyota dealer Friday afternoon and they claim the 2017s will be at their dealership end of August. I suspect closer to September-October time frame. Regardless, I'm hoping @RoadNoise will get a chance to test the 1.1 mile loop with his 2016 Level 2 ECO.

Late thought, staff at the local dealer reports they will NOT be getting a Prius Prime. So much for a 50-state strategy.

Good thing I pick my 2016 three with ATP up on Monday. Saved another $500 over the 2017's...:D

Not to mention probably little or no discount on the new model year..

I just got a call on Friday that they were able to secure a 2016 Prius 4 with AT and CX. I am glad they were able to go get one before 2017. It sounds like the only difference for the model and option I want would be increased base price and lower incentives at launch.

So if TSS-P will be standard on all 2017's and pricing will be increasing, what about the models that already have TSS-P like the one's with ATP Package?? Why the increase if your already paying for it? Just because...?

Aren't they having trouble selling these cars as is?

i wouldn't trust a dealer staff for any hard knowledge on current and/or future models.

It could be better but someone made some unfortunate decisions about the 2016 options.

    Congrats!!

Umm, the $500 includes TSS-P so the package prices probably went down because TSS-P was removed

No. TSS-P is now standard, hence the price increase. On models where TSS-P was already standard (i.e. both Touring models), the price only went up by $15.

The price increase is to reflect that TSS-P is now standard. Basically, you're paying less than $500 for full-speed DRCC, PCS w/ PD, LDW w/ SA and AHB. That's a steal. (Other manufacturers charge over $1,000 for DRCC only)

A little over seven months ago with the Gen-3, you had to buy $6k of 'car bling' so you could finally add $2k of ATP. It was that way from April 2009 until December 2015.

True but that's packaging. I'm talking about the cost of the items themselves. Toyota was still charging $2,000 for DRCC/PCS/LKA for the Gen 3. It's cheaper than what the Germans charge a la carte. (And remember, that's just DRCC. It's not AEB).

Hence why the three with ATP is probably the best deal going... You don't have to spend 4-5k more for a four with ATP or to get a touring with partial ATP goodies if you don't need the softex and the couple other minor upgrades.

Plus you get a spare tire and an even folding hatch (better for camping) unlike the four and 4T with the 3" ridge.

Oh for sure. The $28,000 mark is right about average as well and you get quite a bit of kit for that price.

Actually Toyota charged over 4K for ATP.
Edit: Whats the difference between TSS-P and TSS-C?
I'm impressed with the Sienna's new powertrain. I wonder what the new 0-60 time is. It's missing TSS-P though.

You're right, the ATP was $4,500 and included navigation. The navigation package was $1,800 so DRCC, PCS, LKA and IPA themselves were $2,700.

    TSS-P has:

    • A millimetre-wave radar so it has DRCC. (TSS-C uses Lidar I think and has only standard CC)
    • TSS-P has pedestrian detection for PCS
    • TSS-P's PCS can reduce speed up to 40km/h (25mph). TSS-C's PCS can only reduce the speed by up to 30km/h (19mph)
    • TSS-P's LDW has Steering Assist.

That's sort of where I am too. I wanted the goodies but started feeling bad about the huge price to get them. I was considering the three touring to get the spare and even load floor. I may just wait and see what's new. A good deal can always be found. Of course my trade in will sink in value... so what. I want to get what I want, not what they'll sell me.

Here the article about exchange rates:
Toyota profit slumps amid stronger yen

There was 120 Y/$ this year down to 102 Y/$ next year so wow. 105Y/$ was expected, so it sounds like they are passing thru the 105/102 = 3% = $600 on a $20000 vehicle.

This is really smart of Toyota. I think a lot of people move up to the Four with ATP just for the safety features. They're making the Prius an even better value. This will probably mean a reduced price for the ATP or no ATP at all?

TSS-P was available on the Three as well in its AT package.

Right now.... ATP = moonroof and HUD. PCP = JBL, ICS, IPA, Safety Connect. It's like the packages need to swap names now. :)

It is better value, especially if you want a no-frills car. Previously you had to move up to a Three to get TSS-P but now Two and Two Eco buyers enjoy TSS-P with a slight increase in price.
