What did you do to your Prius v wagon today?

I had my 2012 serviced the other day and they wanted a lot of $$ to change out the car engine filter and the cabin filter. This forum said to get them online. I did from Amazon. A snap literally for the engine.
But the cabin filter surprised me. I bought the car used with 50,000 miles. My wife said the fan was whistling a bit. I opened it up and this is what I found.
See what looks like mouse nest. no droppings though.

Now I don't know what all that stuff was but it looked like batting.
I cleaned it out and replaced it with a K&N lifetime washable.
Then I thought of my wife's 2004 which as far as I knew, cabin filter had never been changed and had 130,00 miles on it. This is what it looked like. Leaves and a little debris.
I just cleaned it out.

 

I switched my dome lights to LEDs (LED on left for comparison):

 

Ok. So we got the v back from the body shop a week or so ago and she's as good as new (wife had a fender bender)...

Present tense...

Just finally got home in the v (thank God Or whatever you believe in as that was a hell of a drive ) after the return leg of our 1700 mile round trip to Hilton head S.C (a couple days of round trips to Parris Island and exploring Hilton head as well).... Avg mpg per the post trip zeroed out display was 43.5 mpg for the 1700 miles plus we gained a full mpg from our starting 36.5 lifetime mpg which is now 37.5mpg. The vast majority of the trip when we could was on cc at 65 - 75 mph (5 over for the most part). I think we spent under $90 on fuel! That's awesome. Hell of a lot cheaper than 3 plane tickets!!!... Oh, plus we rolled past 10k miles on the odometer on this trip

We left on the way down at around 0300 to beat the hellish DC Traffic and that worked out great and it felt like we got there "quick"...The return trip today was terrible with the torrential rains down in S.C. / N.C. Followed by about 5-6 accidents slowing all forward progress to the low double digits for a couple hundred miles, then the hundred miles before and through D.C. Was a frickin catastrophe for unknown reasons!! Aaaahhh!!! Lol. 14+ hr drive with stops!!

Anyways the v ran flawless, had plenty of room for all our stuff, and was wonderful on our first real long road trip. Never once did I complain about the seats or really anything except the godforsaken traffic and crap weather.

 

Tint. I also installed a rear bumper applique and a set of HIC window visors that I will post later.

 

My portholes came today. I know, they aren't functional. My dual exhaust is.

 

Changed out the backing on my emblems today.

 

The yellow matches nicely with the lower edge of your license plate.

Did you install an LED compatible flasher relay, or do you have hyper flashing now?

I went with the cheapest and easiest solution by using a load resistor. So I don't get the hyper flashing.

 

Sean, the LED flasher relays sell for about 5 dollars on eBay, etc.

Resistors get hot, and you have to splice them into the factory wiring. I suppose as long as you don't leave your flashers on for extended periods you don't have to worry about the heat issue.

 

Yeah, but what a chore to do the contortionist act to remove the old and fit the new LED flasher relay!

I totally agree with you about the flasher relay... I will go with that route eventually.. And yes it does get HOT if I don't turn off my signals. I didn't think about it when I first install the load resistor with it being hot. But like you say, it only 5 for the relay flasher... I will give it a try. I got the load resistor for free from a friend and just wanted to try it out. I was too excited to put in the LED bulbs to get it clear.

 

I wanted to protect my rear cargo area from mulch bags and other gardening stuff for this summer. I could not afford any fancy cargo mats and had the idea to make it out of a $12 yoga mat. Used the current rug as a template and it took me only 30 minutes to make it. Here is the picture if you need to do the same.

Is this Prius a emblem and the stock one stick on or does it have pins also?

 

Two weeks of owning my 15 v 5 with ATP now. I got most of the electronics set the way I want. No lights or noise when unlocking, learned if you lock from inside the car the skylight covers will not close, radio, display and maps all dialed in. First week changes were 15% tint on all windows except windshield and full set of Weathertech mats. I ordered the oem bumper cover and mud flaps from Prius Chat and amazingly they arrived in a couple of days. I installed all these today and yellow clear vinyl over the fog lights. All is good! Up next will be some black wheels and later lowering springs. I traded my 13 Prius hatchback for this and couldn't be happier.

 

I bought some Lexus IS250 wheels and had these powder coated in gloss black. Last week these were installed on my v. Next will be the lowering springs. This car is great!

 

Drove it to the store. Bought $90 worth of groceries, nothing automotive. Cleaned out some debris from 20 bags of mulch I hauled yesterday. Its a utility vehicle, not a vanity vehicle. I sold one of those to buy it.

I've put DRLs on for safety. Blind spot mirrors for safety. Weathertech mats for utility. Center caps for ease of tire change except I have yet to have a flat. Gas to get me there. And a set of wipers and a 12v.

 

Instead of washing my car today I removed the emblems off the rear hatch. It’s about an hour job using dental floss to cut through the double stick tape and then a lot of finger work to get the remaining tape off then an adhesive remover for final cleanup. When I wash it next it go over the area with clay, cleaner wax and then sealant.
