We've always had leather except for this new Prius. Is the leather worth the additional $1398 to install? Would it feel as good as the Camry leather hybrid? The cloth seats take some getting used to and we were wondering if the leather give them some additional comfort. Thanks
I ended up with the leather seats as I wasn't willing to wait for another Prius with GPS. In hind sight I think it's worth it as it makes the car feel quite a bit more upscale. That said I wouldn't say that the leather is as nice as in a lexus, more along the line of a current camry. I suspect you can get better leather installed as an aftermarket option.
About a year ago I read a quote from a Toyota Marketing rep who said something like this: Leather will never be an option on the Prius. The target market for this car does not want leather seats. I guess there are two ways to look at it A - Toyota made generalizations about the typical Prius owner B- You guys bought the wrong car! B)
A word of CAUTION with the aftermarket leather: I just got mine installed and it was too dark (gray) and unperforated. I told the dealer I was not satisfied and they said that they used the original (naugahyde style) PRIUS leather specs and did not realize a 2nd gen. of leather seats are available for install. I'm supposed to get the new perforated (little holes in middle panels) installed this week, but am going to see a material swatch to make sure it is lighter in color to match factory..
I came across a leather kit on E-bay. It is supposedly a company that provides aftermarket kits to many dealers. The seller has good reviews and buyers speak very highly of the leather. I went ahead and ordered it for $400. It is in transit right now so I haven’t seen it yet. It is suppose to include the door panels, arm rests, seats, & headrests. It says they recommend having it installed at a local trim shop; but also say they will provide good documentation for those of us that like to do it ourselves! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...TRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
