I have a 2016 car with the base audio system and connect my iPhone 6s via USB. I've noticed that when listening to music from the phone I get voice driving directions, but if I'm listening to the radio, no directions. Seems that if the phone is the selected audio source it all works, but if it's not...it doesn't. Is there a way, when listening to the radio, to have the system mute the radio and provide directions as it does when getting content from the phone?
Are you using navigation through your iPhone? Have you tried listening to the radio through an app on your iPhone such as iHeartRadio?
Oh, I'm sure that would work, but I'd really like to use the radio radio. You know, that technology where they send audio information via amplitude or frequency modulation. It's amazing how far these signals can travel...and it's free!
There is a setting in your maps program that allows this. The car should be on, Bluetooth connected and open settings on your map program. It will then handle the direction prompts as if it is a phone call
Sure. On Google maps you tap the menu icon at the upper left, then the settings icon, then navigation settings, then turn "play as Bluetooth phone call" on. On iOS maps when the phone is connected to the car there's a speaker icon at the lower right. Tap it and select Toyota Prius (or something like that) I haven't checked to see if the iOS settings stick or whether you need to select them each session. Dan
