So on Thursday i bought my first Prius. It's a 2016 Three Touring. Traded my 2014 Jeep Wrangler Willys edition that I absolutely loved for it, it was just time for me to get a better more efficient daily driver. So far I'm completely happy with the car and keep thinking I should have done this year's ago! Still trying to figure out how everything works on it though as I've never had a car this high tech.
Congratulations and welcome to the Prius family. I see that you have good taste - blue w/ black interior, just like mine! Also, looks like there's another 2016 Prius I'll see around the neighborhood.
There are plenty of resources here about how to set the car up the way you like it, you can ask or start digging. I learned more by reading than asking-went into my purchase pretty well versed and even showed the dealer a few things.
Beautiful car, beautiful color! (Why did I buy "plain" white?!) Be careful when pulling into parking spaces. Be aware of those curbs and parking blocks. See how low your front end is? Not much clearance over that curb. I never get that close. Enjoy your Prius... just drive it like a normal car, and have fun! I've scraped the bottom of my front end several times, when entering/exiting driveways. Even when driving fairly slowly. (Maybe I'm just too fat. )
I will second the info about the lowness of the front end. I have scraped mine coming out of a couple of driveways, and also touched off on a couple of parking stops. I read on one post that a member actually pulled their front end partially off by going over a parking stop that had the rebar sticking up out of the top of the stop. It happened when they backed up. Anyway, just a reminder the front end does hang low. I tend to back in every chance I get. The back end is a LOT higher than the front. Oh yeah, love that color. I looked at a three (non touring) that had the same color. I was very tempted to get it, but resisted. Enjoy yours HJ!
Beautiful car, congratulations. If you want even more settings to play with be sure to check out the Carista device and app. I've had my Prius 4 for going on two months and just purchased the Carista this week. I was so happy to see a setting to make the turn signal louder. I'm very hard of hearing even with my hearing aids, and on a long 300 mile trip in the car yesterday it made a huge difference. I also used it to increase the quick signal from four to six flashes. I guess I'm a little slow changing lanes but want to have it going through the entire change. Of course I also changed the backup signal to one beep and a few other things. Enjoy, you should have a lot of fun with the car. J
HJ1, Nice color! Welcome to Prius chat. A lot to learn, read about on various posts. As other posters mentioned, be careful driving into parking spaces, and bumping the lower front end! Ouch! A lot lower than the Jeep, and not as forgiving in front end bumps. Enjoy driving a fun, sporty, efficient vehicle! stt
Mine is Plain White too - but then again, so have almost half of the 18 cars I've owned. I'm actually revelling in how HIGH my car is - the front lip is appreciably higher than my previous FORD Fiesta, and a little higher than the FORD Focus before that. I haven't scraped it yet. But yes, I prefer to reverse into carparks.
I wish in addition to a backup camera it had a nose in camera as well. Haven't tried diving into a parking space face first, better to backup and use the camera.
That pic was taken when I first got home from the dealer and it clears the curb fine. However I'm so paranoid about messing up my new baby that I now park like a foot from the curb or just back it in the space. With my Wrangler I never had to worry about the curbs so I just parked wherever. Thanks for the warm welcome and the compliments and advice folks. I really appreciate it. It had 3 miles on it when I picked it up and has about 105 now. The average mpg has been slowly moving upwards and now sits at 42.3. I have a relatively short commute so don't put many miles on it daily. Still learning how to properly drive it to achieve best mpg. I do get a wierd thrill out of the ev mode and how quiet it is at low speed....makes me grin from ear to ear. This is just so much better......this coming from a hard core gearhead!
130-500 miles driven is a good check/or a work route you always drive. If you are not a previous Hybrid driver look around for driving tips to improve your MPG. Probably 300 threads cover that topic. Be sure to set up your model specifics in your profile as that info could affect MPG. Maybe!
Yea I've been looking around and just trying to drive easy which is a big change for me lol. Trying to get a baseline so to speak so I see what I need to improve on.
