I have had my Prius 2 (2016) for a week and have always just connected to the stock stereo via bluetooth. Today, because my phone batt was getting low, I plugged the lightening cable into the cars USB port while listening to music. There was this faint chime that seemed to speed up and slow down as I drove faster/slower (or maybe I'm bat-crap crazy....could be that too, but definitely an audible chime) And then the music quit all together....but the chime kept going. It was coming through the car speakers so turning the volume off made it go away. I unplugged the phone from USB and it stopped, and music started playing again. And ideas?
I hate you so hard right now, lol Saw a response to this odd and annoying chime and got excited at a possible solution I'm a Apple die-hard....but, if it helps, I'm non-apple computers.
My question is it repeatable? Can you get this occur every time you're playing music and plug it in? What iPhone model and IOS?
When you plug in android (Samsung) it wants to play the stock jingle, it asks you then goes ahead if you ignore it, so instead of a variable chime you get some elevator music, not the end of the world but annoying
I have a new Prius 2 as well and an iPhone 6s that I connect via USB all the time...no chime. Suggest you try a different cable and/or a different phone/player and see if the noise is still there. I neither of those fixes the problem there's something amiss with the car.
I fixed mine by installing an aftermarket deck (Pioneer SPH-DA120) that I already had. I can't say enough how much better this is vs. the Toyota deck. It's not even close.
