On the dash we have the ambient light sensor, like in Gen3. It regulates the brightness of the dashboard. Fine, got it: Then we have the front camera for auto highbeam, pedestrian detection, LDW and LDA, and road sign assist. Got it. What is the thing next to it to the left (the darker black patch with a little hole underneath it - and in the plastic casing behind it, there are some openings)??? (it is not the rain sensor - it is not available in my Gen4):
My god... I didn't even know that was there. I actually went to the garage and looked. I would have swore mine didn't have it. Don't know the answer... but curious to know.
It is the raindrop sensor for the automatic windshield wiping. It is standard on higher levels in Germany (I believe Executive). PRIUS_OM_OM47A29U_(U) p.258 Jan
It is a humidity sensor. There is another thread on this topic. If I recall correctly, it is described in the manual, as well.
