Had a nail in a tire and needed a new tire. $249 from the dealer. Service said I needed to match current tires or it would lower mpg and ride poorly. Seems like a high price. Called 4 tire companies that said Prius tires run from $85-$125. Went with the service recommendations but still feel like I was hosed.
Since you do not list a location, it is hard to know how 'taken' you were US dollars, Canadian Dollars, Australian Dollars, etc. 4 Michelin Energy Saver A/S would be $644 at a 'nearby' Sams Club in MS. ($161 each 2 hour drive) But only $548 at a Costco in TN ($137 each, 2.5 hour drive) So shopping certainly does help
I replaced by factory tires at 105k with Michelins from Costco. Probably $150 each installed out the door with nitrogen and lifetime rotations. No impact on mpg.
that's just standard dealership practice. if you want to keep more change in your pocket, you have to shop around.you only need the dealership for warranty, and very specific hybrid service/maintenance items, usually not in the first 100,000 miles.
The original factory tire is a Toyo Proxes A20, which sells for $241.52 at tirerack so that seems like the right price for an OEM replacement. It's made in Japan. However, as a previous poster said, a nail shouldn't warrant a tire change, unless the tire got shredded?
You claim to have a Prius v V, if you meant Prius v Five, you have the rarer 17 inch tires. That may increase the price as well
