I find the driver's seat in the Prius Four fairly comfortable owing to all of the available power adjustments. However, the Softex seats look cheap, cheap, cheap and feel cheap, cheap, cheap. Too bad leather is no longer available. I guess Toyota has to cut costs to make up the for strong Yen.

I thought Toyota went to Softex more to be "Green" with their hybrids rather than save $$. Frankly, I prefer a good quality cloth seat to anything less than cooled leather. Unfortunately, many automakers, especially domestics, use awful feeling cloth.

I'm the OP. rented a three and a four each for two days. Didn't love the seats on thew three , my butt was very uncomfortable. The four was better in the seat but for some reason the brake seems high. It feels uncomfortable to brake as my foot is at a high angle. I have the four for one more day and will tinker with the seats to try to get a better position. I have been sitting with the seat at its highest (I'm 5'4" and 130 lbs so not a very big person). Any one have suggestions?

Seat is fine for me. It's not the best but does the job. I drive 1-2 hours each direction to work each day so I don't find any problems with it.

However, I don't have any illusion the seats are the best quality nor durable enough for dogs. Honestly most seats wouldn't stand up to dogs anyways and if you're that concerned about comfort, you can always purchase another seat from another Toyota or get something aftermarket.

I got PIAA compact reversible (mesh blue / black) cushions below from amazon. I tried a variety of seat adjustments but felt the angle always dug into the back of my leg, towards the edge which i'm sure affects circulation. I also didn't want to lower the seat too much. These cushions add just a tiny bit of a lift and fit pretty snug between the bolsters. An added bonus is how well they keep the seat bottom more comfortable in the summer time. As you know the black softex can get pretty darn hot. Ain't got time for swamp butt.

As others have said, power seat is better, YMMV, depends on size, don't sit on your wallet, yadda yadda. I'm 6'4" 205 and get pretty uncomfortable after over 2 hours in the saddle. By 6 hours I'm ready to walk. It definitely varies depending on your body, but for me it's not that good a seat. But it's not that premium a car.

Exactly. I had an S70t5 with pretty heavenly seats. But the best was my '88 BMW 535iS. That car had seats I could drive in for weeks.

    Toyotas with GREAT Seats:
    1982-1985 Supra & Celica GTS
    First Generation MR2
1985-1995 SR5 4Runners & Xtracab Trucks ( Tacoma Seats are less well made)

Toyota used to set the standard in this category.

Due to Air-Bags in Seat - Is an upgrade even possible?

    RECARO........Where have you gone?

I agree with you. Most of the Japanese manufacturers had awesome seats (to include Recaro options) in the early 90's. Even now cars like the Honda CR-Z have factory Recaro option but they don't have the side air bags since JDM?? USA does offer a side airbag equipped universal type Recaro but the price point and having to get seat rails is something I would not consider in this car. I can deal with my manual seat but Power is the way to go if at all possible.

Lots of factory cars (sports cars) come with Recaro options now, to include the airbags inside them. But, I wouldn't retrofit them.

For what it's worth, I'm 6'1" and 275lbs and I'm comfortable in all 4 seating positions in the Prius. Ours has the power driver seat.
