Anyone having trouble getting Google maps to voice turn by turn directions using an iPhone 6s over the base head unit? If anyone is interested I found a way to do it.
that's pretty sweet. my brother was in the car with me today using google nav w/ traffic on his i-6. what an amazing free product!
There is no factory-installed navigation system in this country, so I was planning on using Waze. However, because Waze collects information from other drivers about traffic conditions (which is a good thing) it requires a dongle and SIM for communications. Navigator would definitely be another option that I would be keen to try. So what is the secret
I don't know if it is a secret. I don't have nav on my head unit so I wanted to have Google maps voice turn by turn directions using my equipment a Prius 2 and an iPhone 6s. I'm no tech guru but this isn't very hard to do, it's accomplished but just turning on a not so obvious setting. If you have my equipment I can tell how to get it to work.
In your iPhone 6s...... Go to Google Maps Top left there are three parallel lines Tap the parallel lines and scroll down to settings Tap settings Go to navigation settings Tap nav settings Play voice over Bluetooth should already be turned on Turn on Play as Bluetooth phone call....that will activate the voice commands Get out out of settings and type in a location and then tap the blue arrow to start the program Every time a voice command is voiced it will show on the head unit screen as a call coming in
Thanks for that... That works well with our 2016 Prius v Three and my iPhone 5s. I did notice however the Play as bluetooth phone call setting is not persistent between uses, i.e. I need to enable that settle each time. Maybe it's just my phone running iOS 9.3.2 and Google Maps 4.20.85272...
Why is it that the default is no sound when you have Bluetooth connected? Major bug/screw up if you ask me. You shouldn't have to fumble with your phone while driving to get the sound to work. Does Apple Maps have this problem?
I found that if you set the audio source on the Prius to Bluetooth, it works, but you can't listen to music other than what comes over your phone.
No love for Android (specifically Samsung) users??? I like to set this turn by turn on my Samsung phone too.
What's the best strategy to hear Google Maps audio with the least amount of fuss? I don't want to have to drill down into settings each time I use it. I don't care if the audio comes from the phone either.
LEAST amount of fuss is phone speaker. But selecting Bluetooth as your audio source does not involve drilling down into your audio settings. It's just an audio source, selected like any other source. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
If you have to select the 3 lined menu in the upper left, then Settings, then Navigation, then your audio source, I call that drilling down and a royal pain.
If you have to do all that, then I may well agree. I was suggesting that you don't. One of us may be confused, but selecting Bluetooth audio from your phone has nothing to do with Navigation settings, or Navigation at all so far as the car is concerned. As mine is a European version I won't suggest exactly how you do that but this is just an audio source that you need to select just like changing from FM radio to USB audio.
