The Sierra Club is driving a Prius cross-country to raise public awareness about hybrids. The tour is coming through OC on Friday, July 23rd. It'd be great to get the hybrid club involved! In the past we've had a car show or parade with a lot of success. We will have a information about hybrids to hand out as well as a fun event. Email me at [email protected] if the club would like to participate. We'd really like to work with you!
HYBRID EVOLUTION COMES TO ORANGE COUNTY Come join us for a fun evening of clean cars and clean energy. This summer, the Sierra Club's Hybrid Evolution Campaign is touring the West Coast. To celebrate the tour's arrival in Orange County, we are having a special reception on July 23rd in downtown Orange. At the event, you'll have the chance to take a hybrid car on a test drive, get a sneak peek at some of the new hybrid vehicles that will be coming on the market, and learn what you can do to pressure the Bush administration to support clean cars and clean energy. We will also have some exciting speakers talking about the steps California is taking and what steps we still need to see from the Bush Administration, Congress, and Detroit. When: Friday, July 23rd Time: 6:30 pm - 8:00pm Where: The Car Lab, 217 E. Chapman Avenue, Orange, CA
Oooh, which hybrid car will they be testing? And any idea on what they'll be showing off? Perhaps the Escape, RX400h, Highlander, or something new? It's marked in my calendar.
The test car is one you all will be familiar with, I believe. We'll have the Prius that we have been driving down the coast available for test drives. Perhaps sometime in the future we will have a Lexus. One can always hope.
So how is this going to work? Are we just going to look for the other Prii, even though there will probably be alot already . I am looking foreward to this. Cathy, do you have any game plan for us there?
Alright, I'm getting tired of you West-Coasters getting all the cars, having all the get-togethers, and generally it sounds like having all the fun. :-( Swing that Hybrid Tour through Chicago and bring a new Silver #9 with ya!
The Sierra Club is doing the planning for Friday night. I am certain some of you will roll on in in your Prii and there will be a "group-fest" over them all... grin Anything you want to talk about on Saturday? Cathy
I can probably drop in at the meet for a couple of minutes but not for long. I have pushed back my departure date for leaving to Az to Sunday morning. I will be able to drop in there for just a couple of minutes.
Hi Starbug. I'm currently in SoCal but will be moving to Everett/Lake Stevens around the start of September. If there isn't yet an existing group, would be interested in starting a Prius local group out there! Who's with me? 8)
Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Me! Me! Me! I'm with you all the way! There is another thread, http://priuschat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?...3234&highlight= , in which DaveinOlyWA, Danny, and myself noted a lack of WA club/meets (read the bottom part of the page) despite the fairly good-sized number of WA PC'ers. We gotta get this thing going (we'll be nice and wait til you get up here ).
The OC event was quite fun. Got to meet alot of enthusiastic people interested in both the Prius and the Civic. I was able to experience the Honda product line for the first time. I do prefer the Prius, but both the Civic and the Insight were good cars. The Insight was sportier feeling, but the 3 cylinder engine wasn't nearly as smooth. The belt-style CVT also had a "unique" feel to it, but also seemed to take advantage of the lower engine RPM more readily than Toyota's version. The Insight MPG gauge also goes to 120mpg for instantaneous, and both cars have the nifty charge/discharge meter and tachometer that I miss in the Prius. The belt driven A/C definately was a power sap in the Civic, and you could tell by feel that the steering was electrically assisted. All in all, a fun night.
That's really interesting to read. I have been wondering about those two cars and how they stack up to the Prius. I do with the Prius had a tach, and the charge/discharge meter sounds spiffy.
