Hello Guys !!! I just bought a Prius 4 2016 and I was curious if I got a good deal on my warranty? I paid 2k for 6 year or 100k mile warranty the dealer said I was getting a good deal because this is normally 3k is this true please let me know asap so I could cancel the warranty I get the car tomorrow and I am curious.

Personally, I only take the factory warranty (which with TOYOTA is only a measly 3 yrs) - dealer and other warranties seem so limited as to be useless. It might be different if I was buying something inherently unreliable like a VW, Jeep or Fiat.

(Not sure what country you are in - your profile is blank in that respect.)

But - it's a gamble either way - your choice. If something major happened after 5 yrs, I'm sure I'd be able to find the money to fix it, but if you don't think you could, a warranty might give you more peace of mind.

Your hybrid battery and probably most hybrid components are covered by a much longer warranty anyway.

I would cancel. Not worth 2K. Hybrid system is 125K for most states and 8 years and drive train 5 years.

Here in the UK we get a 5 year warranty included with the car.

"the dealer said I was getting a good deal"....well there you go. He would never say that if it wasn't true. Salesman are always looking out for your best interests.

We don't have the option and due to my deep mistrust of dealer servicing, I've always looked forward to the end of warranties on cars I've had in the past, so I can start to do my own servicing, knowing it's done correctly. On my last three cars I've not managed to get to that stage as I've traded up before or just as the warranties ran out.

Nightmare is when they start your car without oil in it.

It's the "paperwork guy" that pushes all those extended warranties, fabric protection, paint sealant, etc. (The office where you sign all the registration and finance forms. He's the "hard sell" man. And of course he probably gets a commission.)

He got a perplexed and disgusted look on his face when I kept saying no... no... NO to his $2200 warranty. Sure, I was concerned about the new hybrid battery; This is my first Prius. But a Prius sold in California comes with a 10-year, 150,000 mile warranty on the hybrid system. "Thats good enough for me", I told him. And he just shook his head, and looked at me like I was nuts or stupid!

I'll never put 100,000 miles on that car, and I usually trade up at the 10-year point. The standard warranty is fine.

The guy who tried to sell the warranty told me about 4 in 10 buy the coverage. I would love to know the stats about how many of those people recouped their money on repairs in the years not covered by the manufactures coverage.

I had a dash cam in the Pruis+ and playing back a clip from the last service, it showed the mechanic opening the hood then the car going up in the air on the ramp. Bearing in mind the dash cam was plugged into the 12v power socket, that's only live with the ignition on, I was getting worried that the car might start with no oil in. Then to my relief, the clip ended, they had turned the ign off, phew !

    Great idea.
Now to get a quality dashcam for a reasonable price. Most work on an internal battery for awhile.
And remote the video to your cell phone.

This warranty seems to be quite the rip-off.
In Germany/EU we get 3 years or 100.000km/62.000 mi on everything and 5yrs or 100.000km/62.000mi on hybrid/battery.
8 years on paint/rust from the inside out.
You can get an extension to 5 years on everything with something like 300€ at the moment of purchase.
2000$+ doesn't sound right to me at all and considering how reliable these cars are, not really necessary. With that much money and all you save in fuel you can repair a lot of things (and clearly not at this dealer who is ripping you off).

I have purchased warrantees in the past, but now I'm convinced that it is not necessary for a Toyota.

Sorry - I didn't realise it was a TOYOTA warranty extension - I was assuming it was a 3rd party warranty in my comments earlier which may make it more useful. Here in Australia, extended warranties I've bought from dealers in the past aren't backed by the factory - and I've never used them.

Exactly, they scared me 3 times and think maybe I have learned.

So far a Prius has been bullet proof for 100K for me. At 100K I need a new car.

I would recommend getting a refund also. I traded a 2010 Prius on my 2016 and never had a wrinkle. Keep ur money.

Update. Noticed the 2017 had a 100K warranty on hybrid parts. Is that correct? Thought the 2016 had a 125K????????????????
