Ok so the last week or so I have noticed that my engine stays on even when hybrid battery is at full charge. Also I can not under and situation use EV mode. Everything else is running fine, and there are no warning lights. Of course the dealer says things are fine. Any ideas?

When this is happening & u accelerate rom a red light, do u feel the ice rev up before the CVT catches? Similar to how a slipping tranny feels?

But running all the time even when stopped? Maybe a bad 12 volt battery that it is trying to charge. When was it last replaced?

idk, i've had many instances where the ice stays on while full green battery. it's burning extra charge or something? but my mpg's are okay.
i don't understand how there could be no codes.
    how many miles on her?

The reason I asked about the Slip is cause I've experienced this same thing in both my 12 & 15 Gen3.

When I power on, the ice starts as normal. Then I notice it won't shut off. When I pull away from a red light I feel it slip or a delay in engagement.

It only lasts for about 15 mins & returns to normal. Never has thrown any codes.

I figured it's just normal behavior as it rarely happens.

So to add to this.... I am not too sure how hot the traction batter should be, but I can hardly touch it

Not good. Did you see the fan, I assume there is one on the c's battery? You could check that it's not clogged.

Highest temp I've seen on ours (monitoring with ScanGuage II) was around 45C (~115F). Normal fully warmed operating conditions, more like 35C (~95F).

It is defiantly higher than that. The fan is not clogged. Being that is it that hot when this issue happens, I am wondering if I have a bad traction battery. Honestly, I kind of hope that is the case. I am only at like 42,000 miles, so it is under warranty

The easy answer is "Have your Toyota dealer look at your issue". Something is not working as it should and you need to find out why.

I am going to for sure. I took it to one dealer, and they said it was working like it should, and removed my aftermarket floor mat haha. I am going to go to a different one

if you haven't logged any trouble codes, they won't replace the battery. if the battery is overheating, you will have a trouble code, but you should have seen a dash light. all the best!(y)

At least you will have started a paper trail.

Is that fan moving air? Maybe a fuse is out or there is a wiring problem?

The very first thing to check is the fan filter under the rear seat (I assume we're talking about a Prius C here, right?). If the filter gets clogged then the fan can't cool the hybrid system high voltage battery and if that battery gets too hot then it basically disables itself to prevent damage.

There was another Prius C owner in this forum that had exactly the symptoms you describe, discovered he had a dirty filter, cleaned it, and the problem disappeared.

I had this issue in my C - the ice wouldn't shut off, and it wouldn't regenerate power from braking. I think the ABS module was frozen or something.

I fixed it by going to an empty parking lot, and stabbing the brake pedal to get the ABS to actuate. After that the car went back to normal.
