New to the prius world. The cruise control has been lurching a bit right when I set it. I think it is maybe because I come off the gas right as I set it, and the engine jumps to catch up. It's sort of hard not to do that though. Anyone else experience this? Or should I get the transmission checked out.
That's correct. Try holding the accelerator steady a little longer to give the cruise control time to get its act together.
I find that to be normal behavior. Hold the accelerator pedal until CC engages at your desired speed.
'Lurch' is a good description. I've just moved from a Gen 1 to a Gen 3, and the Gen 3 cruise control annoys me slightly. The Gen 1 cruise control I could always engage without making any noticeable lurch, it would pick up at exactly the speed I was driving. What I've noticed with my Gen 3 is that any time I hit the SET switch, it seems to set a speed something like ½ mph faster than I'm driving at the time, and then it does a little lurch of acceleration to get there. Not only does the lurch annoy me, I also have to remember to hit the switch about ½ mph below the speed I want. I'm not sure why it does that—seems like with all the precision speed sensors all over the car, it would be easy to build a cruise control that got that right. I've wondered if somewhere in software it is rounding the set speed, and if I happen to be halfway between two whole numbers on the speedometer, it rounds up.... -Chap
Yeah mine does that too, unless I give it a little extra gas right before I set it. Now what is also weird, I've noticed when the cruise control goes from EV to ECO (the gas engine kicks on), there's a bit of a lurch too sometimes. You would think there would be some anti backlash setup to prevent that lurch right? Does anyone experience a lurch from electric to gas-electric power.
