Headroom in car

I guess we are built differently. I'm 6"3 and have no problem with roof height. I have the seat almost straight up and still have a little headroom. I do find the leg length to be problematic where I would like another inch or so of leg room.

I haven't heard anyone lowering their seats.

Same here. I'm 6'2" and have problem in mine, with seat fully straight up. Maybe an inch or so clearance (guess) above my head.

I find the legroom adequate, though it would be nice if the seat did slide back one more notch, as I do keep it at the furthest distance for me.

Never heard of anyone lowering the seats, though I am sure it would be possible by customization.

I to am 6'1" and I have no problems with head room. I feel there is more head room in this car compared to my old 1996 4-Runner.

I do agree with the others though, the leg room is more of what I want. I would love 1 more notch on the seat, I may try and find a way to get that to go back one more notch in the future, but it is not horrible.

I have at least 2-3 inches above my head and I sit with the back almost straight up. I have heard of people reclining the seatback further back to get more head room though.

I have looked at this problem for hours. I've even had the seat completly out of the car, but to no avail. I do not know how to lower the seat without buying a third party seat. Big Bucks and don't even know if it will help.

I needed a good laugh... Thanks! Problem? Hmmm... Let's see - Waiting List - Some buyers still paying $$$ premiums over MSRP - Flying & driving home from MANY miles distant to buy a Prius - Vast majority have no headroom issue - Used Prii selling for near their original cost - Once again: Now, WHAT was that "problem?"

So as to not be insensitive... Some very tall folks don't fit the Prius well and they do have a problem. May be that the oncoming hybrids will be a better "fit" for them. However, sales demand is definitely not a problem for Toyota Prius dealers.

 

For those tall folks who have headroom issues in the Prius, do you have similar problems in other midsize cars? I'm of the opinion that the headroom in the Prius is no worse (and many times is better) than that of other comparable-sized vehicles.

 

6'2, no problem over head-tons of room compared to other cars I've had.

My problem is steering wheel is too far away. Wish it had a fore and back adjustment in addition to tilt. I find with the seat full back for legs I have to sit up absolutely stright to get hands comfortably on the wheel-which is probably why Prius drivers look "that way" in oncoming traffic.

This is a good point. I find the Prius has generous room for being a midsized car. It actually have better headroom then my Maxima (with sunroof) had. That said I wish they had a slightly more 8-way seat, with electronic controls and "memory" for each fob.

Seats are adequate but for a cars that excell in everything else it's a weak point!

I got my 80's hair cut( hair would just touch the roof) to the new 06' standards (now have 6 or more inches between roof and head ) & leaned the seat back 2 clicks to ride relaxed, anything over 4 clicks is riding getto style.. Not really into that nor do I understand it...

Of course you could do like the guy named Bones did in the 1970's movie "Gator" (Before alot of you's times)
and instal a sun roof and stick your head out of it :lol: :lol: :lol: .

Some people sit up real straight and stiff. I'm 6'5" and on test drives, my head fit fine. Leg room, on the other hand, was worse. I think I sit lower in the chair, therefore my knees are farther out and I can't get them under the steering wheel

I'm 6'4" and have an inch or two clearance on top - knees are very close to the steering wheel. If the seat went back an inch I'd be smitten- anyway it's a little sacrifice compared to the Mercedes s430 I traded in for it. However, there's no luxury in massing carbon dioxide. Anyway, I'm smiling from ear to ear since I just happened to get the new magnetic gray metallic and waited less than 2 weeks - some poor chap had to withdraw his deposit.

I'm 6'6" and I barely fit in this car. I have driven it for five months, and I'm finally getting used to it. The headroom is fine if I tilt the seat back a couple notches, but the leg room is super tight. I've hit the shifter with my right knee several times. I haven't done that in a while though. The headroom is similar to other mid-sized cars, the problem is with the leg room. Another two inches of leg room would be great.

 

6' 1 1/2" ... plenty of head room, about the same as my former Intrepid. I sat in a Stratus once while waiting for the Dodge to be fixed -- couldn't sit upright at all.

I only wish the steering wheel weren't so LOW. Distance and size is fine for me, otherwise.

I wonder how hard it would be to reinstall the seat rail system a couple of inches back. There is a lot of room between front and rear seat to work with.
