wow, prius and hycam are the only vehicles with 4 monthly increases! and fusion energy. and mkz. what up with i3?
I don't know. We are seeing early lease vehicles in eBay so perhaps these are new leases replacing the ones that were held before: lease - $4k down, $250/mo., buy-out price $28,000 (*) purchase $28,000 - $500/mo. for 60 months (*) In effect, leasing a new, BMW i3 appears to be cheaper than buying a used one ... unless you want to do something with it or the competition is a Gen-4, Level 3 + TSS-P. Bob Wilson * - I would appreciate anyone double checking what I found.
Found an alternate explanation for the Subaru problem: Subaru's Rare Problem: Scarcity, John D. Stoll, Yoko Kubota, Wall Street Journal, June 3, 2016, B1 Chattanooga, Tenn., car dealer Time Kelly says he could use another Subaru, or as many more as he can get. ... Subaru hopes to lift its supplies of new vehicles later this year by reclaiming capacity at an Indiana factory now shared with Toyota. We've seen similar sales dips after Japanese earthquakes and supply chain problems. Bob Wilson
Posted this bit of snark at Autoline Daily: AD #1877 – Audi Redesigns the A5, Chevrolet Sales Tank in China, Bosch Develops Autonomous Parking App – Autoline Daily In the efficient car market: Model – May, April, March, February 2016 Prius – 9389, 8923, 8130, 7169 RAV4 hybrid – 4185, 3807, 3073, 2462 The rest were flat-lined. The 2016 Prius would have had one more sale but the Level 2 ECO does not offer the TSS-P, safety system and the Level 3 with TSS-P has a moon roof instead of MPG. For the same money, I bought a used, 2014 BMW i3-REx, loaded with their TSS-P equivalent that came off lease with 6440 miles and 2.5 years of warranty remaining. My ‘test’ drive home was 463 miles at 42 MPG via the I40 pass through the Smoky Mountains. First week added over 500 miles in EV with half from free public chargers. Cheap gas has made this time a buyer’s market for good hybrids. Bob Wilson
The Prius is still down 21% from last year. The Rav4 hybrid might be the first Toyota hybrid to actually rival Prius sales. The Sonata hybrid is beating its Toyota and Ford competitors. I don't know how the Optima model did previously. This is the first year for the PHEV Sonata, so it might have a slow start. BMW recently announced a switch in batteries for the 2017 i3; the BEV is over 100 miles in range, and the REX gets more access to its fuel tank volume with its increase in EV range. The Crosstrek.
Prius + RAV4 sales look good to me, all things considered. FORD Fusion Energi sales are decent...we should expect Prime to grab some of those sales. I'd sure like to know who are really buying the Fusion Energi's (Californians? fleets? Corporate? or what). But I know I will never get that answer.
prius is def the victim of increased competition. that's a good thing, but if the overall market isn't growing much now, maybe the wide range of offerings will be a benefit when prices spike.
This led to: Toyota Prius Sales Figures - GOOD CAR BAD CAR Month Toyota Prius U.S. Sales 2015 Toyota Prius U.S. Sales 2016 1 January 7316 6102 2 February 7070 7169 3 March 9485 8130 4 April 8822 8923 5 May 11921 9389 6 June 9559 7 July 11203 8 August 10450 9 September 9952 10 October 9611 11 November 8287 12 December 10153 For looking at the Gen-3 and Gen-4 Prius, this is a good source. It does show the steady growth this year but compared to last year, not setting any sales records. However, I still like the Jeff Cobb's survey of all hybrids, EVs, and diesels, the 'horse race.'
