How many 2016 Prii have you seen on the road?

Now and then, I would drop into the dealership awaiting the arrival of the 2016 Prius. Finally, they arrived early February (a month later than expected) and I placed an order. I expected to see a few in the wild during the two month wait - nope; not one. I picked mine up over 6 weeks and 1000 miles ago and still haven't seen another in the wild. Dealer claims to be selling them though a couple months earlier they said general sales were slow due to the low price of fuel. What is unusual is that whenever I have purchased a new car in the past, for a short time, I have had a heightened awareness of that car on the road - seemingly seeing them everywhere. Not this time; not one. Surely I am not flying solo in Columbus, OH.

Yeah, I'm not seeing them on the road in the Baltimore area either, only once. We have lots of Toyota dealers and one I checked with today had 40 (yes that's forty) Prii sitting on their lot. Problem is that they are almost all 2's, with a couple 3's and one eco. No 4's and no touring. Seems like everyone wants the high end vehicles and they are just not to be had right now. I did find one dealer this week with a 4 touring in my colors, but it didn't have PCP, and was not in great condition. Looked like it had been dogged and brought in from another dealership, interior was filthy with mud all over the seats and door jam, and had 172 miles on it. Had a sign on the floor board advertising 29k, but then I saw it on the dealer's inventory online for 26k. Something very wrong there. J

I just spotted my second one locally today. It was Sea Glass Pearl and they'd had long enough to get a license plate... and it was very very dirty! I thought how can they not care enough to keep it washed? That color (with allot of dirt on it) is not flattering. :(

I kind of wanted the sea glass pearl with black interior but that was the hardest color scheme to find. Did a search and closest one was 500 miles away.

Curiously, there's lots of them all over London. I saw 3 of them on my 18 mile commute home today. One of them really looked stunning from the rear, it was Batman Black.....very distinctive with those rear lights. A white one flashed past me, engine howling. I think it was a minicab, and the driver isn't very knowledgable about how to drive Prii. The last one was metallic grey silver......wafted along silently like a "Ghost in the Shell"....

I saw one the first day I had mine. It was the same gray as mine. But I don't know if it had the black interior like mine.

I have seen pretty much daily 2016 priuses here in the bay area california, lots of Prius owners here due to traffic congestion.

The States has a strangely cavalier attitude towards new vehicle plates. Up here, when you pick up a vehicle the dealership will arrange to have an insurance agent come by with plates and paperwork; you do not roll off the lot plateless.

I think it depends on the state. In Maryland you don't leave the dealership without insurance verification and at least temporary plates, and many of the larger dealerships issue permanent plates so everything is taken care of before you leave the lot.

Could be fraud protection or the way the DMV works??

The only way you leave the lot plateless is if you ordered a personalised plate. Then, you'll probably have a temp plate.

Also, it depends if the plate follows the owner or follows the car. (e.g. in CA, I believe the plate follows the car)

This is only my 3rd sighting in the wild.

Today I was in High Point and saw the unmistakable form of the Gen 4 Prius. It was the Sea green pearl. I don't think it looked that good. I'm hesitant to criticize others' color choices because it is all very subjective. But the color just looks very flat and bland. I've noticed the same thing on the Gen 3 and the Prius V. Although I kind of like the color, I don't think it looks good on the cars I've seen it on.

I'm always curious who the buyer audience for the car is. So I took a little peek as I drove past it. It was 2 little old ladies (octogenarians if I had to guess :D ... you know, 'blue hairs')

So do you think the Prius bank robber commercial and 'edgy styling' is catching the attention of the younger crowd?

    lol :D

After a 1,400 mile round trip to visits friends in SC, saw 2 more 2016 Prius on the road. Total of 3 seen to date. Both on road and in West Virginia near Tamarack area. Stopped at a dealership in Spartenburg as they had 12 on the lot.

They claimed they sell a bunch of them. Most sold were the level 2 prius he said.

I'm in SFBA, may be for couple of months I just have seen three-four Gen4. It's not what I would expect. I think when price closer to 25K, buying Volt is very attractive here (additional California credit).

I was on a lookout for them since I ordered mine in March; so far I saw 1 - it was my one, reflected in a shop window

Haven't seen any around here but mine. :D I must say, I am relishing in the moment, lots of looks like "ooo what's that?" It won't be long before they are everywhere though.

    74 Days.
That's how long it took to receive my plates in the mail. (A neighbor lady across the street from me, drove for 5 years with just the paper dealer name on her new Lincoln pickup truck. She just didn't care! Never put the plates on! Not until year six, when I guess she finally got pulled over and questioned. And then she only put one plate on. :ROFLMAO:)

    5.
That's how many new 2016 Prii's I've seen since I bought in February. (But hundreds Gen 2&3 in my coastal area.)

    65.
I see a new, or newer Chevy Volt Hybrid almost every day since I got my Prius. (Are they giving them away?)

    Thousands!
By far, the most popular, or highest selling economy car in my area seems to be the Hyundai Elantra. I think I see a dozen every day. (But not one 2016/17 yet.)

The only looks I get are, "Hey old man! Get out of the way!" And that's when I drop the "White Knight" into POWER mode, and blow their butts away.

Seriously, I haven't had any ooooh's or aaaah's or questions or any comments at all. Even when I told my friends I got a new 2016 Prius, they just kinda shrugged, and said, "Ok, what else is new?"

I have seen eight or ten of the 2016's in 5 months - that is not a lot! I did see a sporty looking grey one turn on my little street, so I know that my "Salty" has a friend in the neighborhood.

I think price for Volt is very close to Prius, which makes it really attractive, plus new Volt came a few months ahead.

I've seen a lot. Just saw another new Volt when I went to the park a while ago. And it was parked right by a... you guessed it... a Hyundai Elantra! And a new Honda Civic.

Now that I think about it, the new Honda Civics are everywhere! I would say the 2015 and 2016 Civics the #1 selling compact in Southern California.
