I haven't bought a new car in a while Do I just use truecar and ask them to match? I'm seeing $23900 + tax / docs
You should be able to do $22943 (for a Prius two ) at the minimum. If you want Pearl White - $23288 There is currently a - $200 Rebate for AAA / Geico / Allstate / Amex members - $1500 Rebate for NOT getting a loan through Toyota Pushing for $22k flat isn't out of the question.
Gas is cheap, Toyota sales are down 9.6%; I can believe it. On top of that rebate, toyota is pushing very high incentives to dealers if they sell over certain number of vehicles. So the dealers are more willing to deeper discount vehicles in Stock. SM-G935T ?
I was able to get the dealer to quote $21700 for a Prius II. I think it's low enough to pull the trigger but since it got there so easily, I may squeeze for more.
I'm guessing this price includes the $1500 rebate. Unless you are paying cash in would be cheaper to go with the 0% financing and forgo the $1500.
Now it's down to $21600. HamiltonPrius, yes I am paying cash. If I Pay Cash - I save $1368.75 The actual savings with the $1500 rebate is $1368.75 since they are telling me to pay tax before rebate discount. If I finance 0% - I roughly make $1200 minus tax ($900) Given I only get about 2% back (at best) on some CD. Paying cash seems to be the better choice, but not by much.
Obviously I don't know your specific situation. All I did was run a quick loan calculator for $21,700@ 2.99 for 60 months. The total interest is $1689.45 which is a little more than the $1500 rebate. Good luck in you car buying quest.
If I got a quote like that, I'd have a new prius in my driveway Where are you? I noticed that some regions (like CA) have lower prices then where I am. Nice work getting them below the truecar price!
Just a little thing, I "got" the $1,500 rebate in addition to the 0%. I would be expecting a Prius Two to be under $21k. Of course your situation may vary, $21k isn't a bad price but I think if you don't NEED it right now, keep shopping around and if you haven't been spoken to other dealers maybe send out some emails.
I wasn't looking at a 2.99 interest rate to LOAN I was looking at the potential income I can make on the money (using CDs) I didn't have to pay up front.
Did the OP buy her car? Awesome lead from Kenji post # 17 $20.7K. Is that out the door? With $1.5 rebate? OP don't forget about DMV, Document Fees, etc. In Calif, we have a near 9.75% sales tax rate, so that may need to be added on to the price. Plus watch out for service contacts, paint sealant and all. I am also in the SF Bay Area yet I really only know service at three Toyota dealers in my area. Good hunting!
Have you considered ETFs? I have a fairly conservative spread of 6 ETFs I dumped some cash into about 6 months ago. So far I'm sitting at a 4% return. Not as safe as a CD, but you could potentially get a bigger return depending on your risk tolerance.
