Does fuelly really works?

Fuelly says 36.0 is my Avg MPG What should I be seeing ?
What is the advertised minimum MPG ?

 

That mileage in the upper 30s sounds low to me as long as the car is getting enough time to warm up around town. During the school year I'll get worse than that but 5 days a week the car only goes a mile or 2 at a time and sits for one to 5 hours between the short hops. Weekends and summers the mileage goes into the mid to upper 40s due to warmer weather and long runs on the highway.

Just for your peace of mind it might be worth having a professional take a look at it.

Start with the basics.

• what is the tire pressure set too?
• look for uneven tire wear; alignment could be off
• check oil level; too full isn't good. It is best to have the level on the dip stick in the middle.

Now, short trips will kill fuel economy. A larger percentage of the car's on time is spent in the warm up stage. If the Four came with larger wheels, that will also lower the expected fuel economy. The A/C is more efficient than that on other cars, but keeping the cabin extra cold will take more energy.

 

I'd think you'd definitely get better than that. My current tank is going to drop my average a little but it's been nothing but short hops around home. I'm currently at 49+ but this tank will be lower 40's and drop my average to 48.x probably or maybe even 47.x.You want to keep ECO lit up on the gauge all the time. It makes for slow going but fast mpg increasing.

 

I'd debate that ECO does much of anything.

I noticed that the eco button changes the output of my climate control. I was planning on doing some research here on the effectiveness of the different mode buttons.

 

I am having trouble posting with my phone browser. 50mpg is the advertised fuel economy.

 

US regulations does not require separate ratings for the different wheel sizes. If you larger than base wheels, expect lower MPG.

Are the tires actually new? Fresh rubber has higher rolling resistance than worn. Much of the break in for a new car before getting good fuel economy is wearing down the tires. For the EPA tests the tires can't have more than 4000 miles on them, but they will be close to that.

 

Yes the tires just a few weeks old but new or old I'm still averaging the same 350 miles per tank full
