    Problem solved. My 2016 does this and it's enough for me. My 2011 did something similar but I had to clear the trip computer and the overall mpg counter. This year's model, the trip counter has it built-in.

    I use an automatic 2nd gen adapter in my 2005 Prius. I works really well and always connects to my phone. It takes a while to turn on though. Sometimes the adapter turns on 5 minutes into the trip. I haven't tried it on my 2016 though.
