Hi everyone! New to this forum and have already spent a few days digging through everything - what a fantastic resource! I'm a bit stuck at the moment. I can't really decide between a Gen4 Two or a Three, and from what I understand (which is not mthe main difference really boils down to the Entune suite, and navigation I already have on my phone. Is there something I'm missing here that can justify the price difference between the Two and the Three? Thanks so much!
The Two uses the older, potentially more reliable NiMH batteries rather than the newer, lighter, Li-Ions in the Three.
This also was a struggle for me. I decided to go with the model 2 Prius 3 features not in the Prius 2 Different hub caps Cell phone charging unit White tub and lower part of steering wheel Soft touch steering wheel and upper surfaces Better head unit...nav Foot well lights 3 door illuminated entry Different battery pack Approximately $2000.00 more If these features are worth the extra money then go for the 3
This might help you. Visual Tables of Gen4 Package Combinations | PriusChat If you want a spare tire, get a two, or a three. Pass on two eco or both of the fours.
I sometimes see people mention the difference in batteries. Personally, I felt this was negligible. The warranty on the battery, and the entire hybrid system, is at least 8 years, or 10 in some states like mine. So, either Toyota knows pretty well that the technology is good enough to go the distance, or they are going to be replacing them in the future. Either way, I'm good.
I bought the Three. Some reasons are just cosmetic, and some reasons are very important to me. Important: I just happen to get a great price that wasn't very much more than a Two. I wanted the new ion hybrid battery. I wanted a spare tire. I wanted the Navigation system. Now that I understand the operation, it's great! (Much better than trying to use my little iPhone for Nav.). Very nice large screen with split-screen feature, traffic alerts, very easy to enter destinations using the "points-of-interest" feature. Voice operation works well, and a nice woman responds to me with a clear loud voice. And XM radio is really nice. Cosmetic: The SofTex-wrapped steering wheel on my Three feels much better in my hands. I actually like the white cup-holder area, and white shifter console. The dashboard is a bit more padded. I like the Three hubcaps better than the Two.
Base Price of Prius 2 with floor mats in my area is $25,260.....Prius 3 is $27,505. Would you share how much of that difference you made up?
I would buy the cheapest if you like your cell phone GPS. The safety stuff is for old people like me. RED is to die for or in depending on how bad your driving is.
Sure. Back in February, I paid $25,109 for my Three. That price included the $750 transportation fee. (Or was it $850?) And there was carpet floor mats and a steering wheel in the car. I believe the Two model was $500 less, at that time. Merged. Edit to add: I had a budget of $25K.That's all I was able/willing to spend on a new car. So I bought the "most Prius" I could get for that amount. I'm very happy with my choice of the Three model. As I've mentioned before, it's my first hybrid vehicle, my first Prius, (and my first time using a fancy Navigation system! ) It's a pleasure to drive. The gas mileage is outstanding. And even the tire noise doesn't bother me so much anymore.
I would like to have had some of the features of the Prius 3 but non of them was a deal breaker and with the figure you gave me my Prius 2 was about $2,300 less. For the money difference it wasn't worth the added features for me.
Yeah, I'm starting to see the Two model being offered for aprox. 23k in Southern California now. (In December, it might be down to 19K, ) 2016 Two model with Moonstone interior. Still has the white shifter console, and a little white on the steering wheel. I like it. 2016 Two, with black appliqué over shifter console. Red 2016 Two, with my "Old Guy" Harvest Beige interior color. I like it.
The base model has it's attractions, which seems a bit of a conundrum, at least for me: 1. No white trim. (or does it still have some, say the steering wheel and shifter surround) 2. Tried-and-true battery technology. 3. Spare tire.
The way I looked at it was that the MSRP for Prius 3 is about $2300 more than the Prius 2. That difference was probably going to stay consistent even after dealer discounts. I originally hated the white around the shifter so I bought the black shifter appliqué but I'm not sure I like it better than the white.
Who is Darth? Sorry for the double Red pictures. Maybe someone can delete that? Thanks. (a posting glitch.) Merged. You certainly got an outstanding price! Black shifter, or white... it all good. Merged. I was driving early this morning. The weather was all gray, cloudy, and overcast. A new Gen4 like this one was coming in the opposite direction... I didn't even see it until the last couple seconds! Man, that was scary. It's a nice color. Beautiful. But beware of blind old dudes like me!
Later in the year the price should drop even more. I still believe a buyer will be able to get both the $1000 rebate from Toyota and the 0% financing.
Totally go for a three, but also consider a 2 eco. No rear wiper or spare, but better gas mileage, has the newer battery, and the better wheels.
