i hope they build too many, so i can get one for cheap! 20-50,000 in cali due to stickers. here we go again.
It really doesn't. Tesla won't have the Model 3 at full speed production for a minimum of 2 years, more likely 3. If GM hits their "late in 2016" target, they have the market all to themselves for about 2 years. The big question is, do they want to scale up production. They certainly have the capability.
If lease rates are reasonable on the Bolt, it may be a good bridging vehicle for those waiting for more available 200+ mile BEVs from other manufacturers in 2-3 years.
Bolt will be similar to the Honda fit very versatile vehicle! If gas price goes upnto 4-5+dollars a gal. Bolts will be in Big demand! I don't see Tesla rolling out any base models soon more profit on upsale expect price be more in the 50k range till the wait list is fulfilled !
It's in the same size class as the Fit and Sonic; which can both haul plenty of stuff. Not everything, but GM isn't supporting fast DC charging networks for the Bolt. So being able to take all your worldly possessions with you on vacation isn't as big of a con for the car. The Bolt won't have the Fit's Magic seats, but it will be roomier for rear passengers than the Sonic.
understood. i use the prius mostly for local hauling, so less space is a big concern. one reason i'm not excited about prime. these seem more like commuter/city vehicles or something like that. it will be hard for me to downsize, but i'm sure larger ev's will be coming down the road eventually.
There will be a DC fast charger option. GM is just leaving the building of that network to other parties. So those planning to buy a Bolt, and use it as an ICE replacement, are at the mercy of whatever infrastructure there might be. Tesla is open about the Supercharger network, and where they plan to expand it. Depends on what an individual needs to locally haul. I've fit a lot into the Sonic, but also have a Sable for long things like boards and pipe.
agreed. i use it mainly for the dump/recycling center. i need every inch though. i usually have to remove my spare to get everything in there.
To be fair (trust me, I'm no fan of GM), I think the numbers we saw for reservations for the Model 3 is proof there is huge demand for an affordable long range EV. Yes, part of that is the Tesla aura and their brand/quality. But I think we are deluding ourselves if we don't think it speaks at least a little bit to the market potential and great outlook for other affordable long range BEV's.
Looks like my last car in 6 years when it is self driving. 2017 Bolt EV: All-Electric Vehicle | Chevrolet The Battery: Where it all starts. You have places to go, and the Chevrolet Bolt EV makes it possible with a nickel-rich lithium-ion battery. Here’s how: The battery chemistry enhances heat resistance and a liquid cooling system helps manage its temperature when the outside climate varies. Plus, the battery pack has an energy capacity of 60 kWh – allowing you to travel an estimated more than 200 miles of range on a single 5 2 Based on GM testing.
