Has anybody tried using a different battery configuration in a Plug-In Prius? I'm thinking that since there are now denser batteries, a larger capacity battery can be installed in place of the factory battery, and hopefully get further range on a charge, OR a physically smaller battery with the same capacity, giving storage while reducing weight... I'm currently driving a 2012 White Plug-In Prius, and I know the battery will need to be replaced eventually...
no, nobody's tried it. we're all eager to see what you come up with though, then i won't have to buy a prime!
This was my thought from the beginning. By the time I need a new battery the technology will have advanced so far as this could be accomplished. Still have my fingers crossed. It's still a 300k mile car for me.
any thing is possible, but no one is going to do it 'en masse' unless there is a big enough market. from what i see in the prime, the battery advancements have not been spectacular in 4 years.
I've decided to be happy with what I've got. I adjusted my driving habits to get the most out of my pip. not spending another $30k for an additional EV 11 miles.
I've heard the Prime is more than simply better EV range, it's higher MPG all the way around. That being said, I cannot justify getting rid of a fully functioning car for A] Better EV range, or better fuel economy [especially since we are starting at such a high mileage as it is...]
Sorry to resurrect this one but has anyone tried yet? What is the weight and Ah of the existing battery? and what sort of range is anyone expecting / hoping for?
sorry no. the weight and ah was discussed way back in the beginning if you can find it. not much happening with the pip these days, we just drive 'em
i have no problem acting nonsensical from time to time, but i'm not close to smart enough to figure something like this out. and much smarter people than me have come to the same conclusion.
