I have a 2012 prius v with the "auto" headlights setting. They turn on in the dark and turn off in the light. I have to remember to turn them on when it's raining. I wish that they worked like my previous 2009 prius, where they turned on when I started the car and turned off after I turned off the car and opened the door. Is there a way to get the new prius to act like the older ones headlight-wise?
i thinks you should go guarantee or control by hand beause weather always chane can not dont use ic auto
On my 2012 v3 I just leave the headlights in the ON position at all times. When I start up (Ready mode) they come on, when I shut down AND get out of the car they go off with the driver's side door closing. I believe there is a delay off parameter in the Display Audio system but I have mine at zero delay. My 08 works the same way. You can try it on yours, it might work, it might not since you have a v4.
Your comment helps as my spouse is the usual driver of our 2012 v Five. She tends to forget to turn on lights, so I set the lights stalk to AUTO, and apparently our setting-after-closing-driver-door must be at 30 seconds. However we had a sudden failure of of our 12V while on a trip and I wondered if that extra use contributed to the failure. And so we set the switch to off. Now that I know we can set the switch to no delay, I think we will try that. Thanks
Your headlights don't actually run off the 12v battery when the car is in "ready" mode and capable of running. The inverter under the hood takes the HV battery down to 12v for all running tasks. Probably it was time for the 12v battery or there was an unintended discharge with the car off. The trunk light can do it with the door ajar as can the map lights if left on after shutdown. Even those discharges often respond to a jump and a subsequent recharge by the inverter of the 12v battery. It's happened a couple of times on my 2012 v and it still has the original 12v battery.
Any Owner with Display Audio or Navigation should be able to alter the delay on a 2012 v, as can the dealer. One oddity is that I recall even after 4 years, is that 30, 60, and 90 are listed but no delay is called off. It took awhile to convince my self I wanted off. (When I park in the dark, 95% of the time I am in my own garage, so no delay makes sense for me) http://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om-s/OM47674U/pdf/OM47674U.pdf Page 525
I installed a used Auto Headlight turn signal stalk IT WORKS. Yet there is some labor involved it is easy to remove the airbag and steering wheel. The most difficult part is removing the stalk off the column, still not bad. Once you have this completed your headlights will function automatically when sensing dark and light. You also now have the option to add driving lights too.
Good to know for a v. For my 2010 liftback there were also a couple lengths of wire to be added under the dash, which made it a much more fussy job.
