More on this: Here's What A Toyota Truck Looks Like After 1,000,000 Miles What Is a Million-Mile Toyota Tundra Worth? | Toyota
The old Tundra will be disassembled over the course of a few months, with engineers examining every component of the truck from bumper to bumper. Toyota hopes to incorporate the information gleaned from the weatherbeaten truck into future product development. they screwed up. it was not supposed to last that long. someone will get fired.
Didn't know if it had any issues, just that Toyota's full size truck offering has V8s only, while everybody else has more fuel friendly V6s available.
Wow! Except by the time 1 million miles rolls around many of us would have bought how many new cars? Even at $120K deficit he might come out ahead!
not many of us drive 125,000 miles a year. many of us take 10 years to drive that. sorry you can't extrapolate miles not taking time in account.
Good to 'take a shot' @9, and not too hard to tighten it up. Because, internet. I used gasbuddy and fuelly. Houston's 8 year time-weighted fuel cost about $2.90/gallon. Not much data on V6 Tundra mpg, one guy reports 18.2 mpg. I used 18 here, and 20 mpg is perhaps possible. Over a million miles, 2 mpg can really mean a lot of money! For the Prius, by fuelly, 44.6 mpg. I know many of y'all do better... Million-mile fuel costs Tundra 18 mpg - $161,111 Tundra 20 mpg - $145,000 Prius 44.6 mpg - $65,022 Guessing other 'costs of ownership' would be less constrained by data The psychological cost of driving Prius in TX with all your buddies in pickups, well, who could know? I think Toyota would buy back a (another?) million-mile Prius, with similar engineering motivation. You wanna be that guy, increase your chances by keeping thorough maintenance records. Can only imagine what real-world engine-oil chemical analyses would reveal over a million miles.
sadly, we'll never know what, if anything, toyota learns from this. it could be that they'll find places to cut corners, to get that lifespan back down to 150,000 miles.
I would be sincerely interested in Prius still on the road with very high odometers. Data source? Could happen here? The civilian hummer, once regarded as Prius' polar opposite, has a website including that. But as always with no claim of comprehensiveness High Mileage Hummers
