Does anyone know the difference between owners manuals OM47A29U and OM47B39U that are posted on the Toyota site. I'm thinking that B39U is for Canada, but the manuals don't seem to specify. Thx, J
Toyota Owners Official Web SiteGot a link? Mine shows 29U only if you set up your account and add your vehicle. 800 pages. Wow
I didn't notice any differences. BTW, I found that if you open the 800 page manual in a Kindle App on your iPad, it is very fast and easy to scroll to the table of contents and then the page you want.
How do you do that? I thought only Kindle files would open on the Kindle app. Wouldn't it be great if the service manuals could be downloaded and read on an iPad in the same way? This is already done with aircraft manuals for pilots.
Thanks ETP, and great idea using the Kindle app, I hadn't thought of that. I believe I have used it before to view pdf's. J
You can load the "Kindle App" onto an iPad (among other places). Once you do that the next steps are simple. Download the PDF of the manuals from Toyota. Once the PDFs are open on your iPad hit the tiny square box that you would use to print or email a copy of the PDF, but instead click on the Kindle icon to "open in Kindle". Done deal. Kindle will store the manuals on your device, and in addition to getting the Kindle index, you can scroll through all the pages super quick -- just play around with it or find a 10-year old neighborhood to help. Best to always have one of them on call for IT work, anyway. If you are an iPad Mini addict like me, this adds some valuable cubic inches to the scant Gen 4 storage, since you no longer need the hard copy in the high rent district which is your glove box. Next bit of unsolicited advise-- get a modern flashlight (like a Fenix) and relegate your Mag Light to the garage ;-)
Thanks!! I have had the Kindle app on my iPad for ages because that's mostly where I read books. But I never knew about the rest of it. You're right, I need a 10-year-old assistant. If I could get an iPad mini cheap, having a dedicated one for the manual would be an interesting idea if I could remember to keep it charged. Seriously. You're absolutely right about the flashlight but I'm inclined to put one of these in there instead: Petzl Tikka R+ Headlamp - REI.com In an emergency it leaves both hands free for brain surgery and it's USB-rechargeable from the car. edit: OK, so I opened the pdf on my iPad with Kindle running but no Kindle icon appears when I click on that square box. I did see a brief message that the pdf was opening in iBooks so maybe that is the problem. Where are those 10 year olds when you need them?
Yea, he would have given you correct instructions, not the bogus ones I shared earlier. Forget the square box. Just open the PDF and touch it so that "0pen in ...." appears at the top of the PDF page (upper left hand corner). Click on those words "0pen in..." Then when the Kindle icon pops up (it should say copy to Kindle underneath) click on that. No need to open the App first. Here are two screen shots to show you that I am not shooting from the hip this time.
Now THAT works, thanks. So I can leave the Owner's Manual in the car and look up things on my iPad when I'm in my condo, perfect! I checked prices on iPad Minis and even the least expensive is >$200 refurbished on the Apple site. Too bad the owners manual can't be loaded into Entune, that would make Entune actually useful!
I have the manuals loaded on both my Mac and IOS devices in iBooks. On the mMac, iBooks actually opens Preview to view PDFs. You can have the sidebar show the Table of Contents. On IOS devices, iBooks handles PDFs. If you tap on a page, a navigation bar will open. The second item (a set of horizontal lines) initially opens to a set of page thumbnails. However, if you look on the left, you can also select either a tappable Table of Contents or a Bookmark list. Note that it both cases, page number references in the text are actually links to the page. So, for example, you can use the picture index pages to jump to the page that describes a particular button or in
