Excellent essay, i've suggested some similar cycling procedure to our Prius 2016 users, and we know now that is better to force ICE ignition at 4 bars rather than 3 bars (or less), and then let ICE recharge the battery up to 6 bars and let the car slip naturally in EV.

On the same daily route, from cold start:

    - including S1,
    - 18 km (11 miles) each, 3 km ave Sp 40 km/h, 15 km ave Sp 80 km/h
    - Start SOC = 4 bars; END SOC = 4 bars
    - acceleration to ICE ON = 3/4 ECO range (likely need less)
    - Trim equivalent to 4 Touring

    Run 1 = EV down to 3 bars - 71 MPG - 3,3 lt/100km - Ambient temp 14°
    Run 2 = EV down to 4 bars - 84 MPG - 2,8 lt/100km - Ambient Temp 17°

It will be interesting to see results cycling down to 5 bars.
Confirmed, as the old HSD, that is not efficient to overload too much ICE with heavy battery recharge, then..

Great post. I'm glad I bought Prius.
